Why Isn’t This Map in the History Books?
That is the first history of Americans before it was America.
By the age of 10, most children in the United States have been taught all 50 states that make up the country. But centuries ago, the land that is now the United States was a very different place. Over 20 million Native Americans dispersed across over 1,000 distinct tribes, bands, and ethnic groups populated the territory.
History is not there for you to like or dislike. It is there for you to learn from it. And if it offends you, even better. Because then you are less likely to repeat it. It’s not yours for you to erase or destroy.

The Buffalo Dream
On the snow where silence stays,
A spirit moves in timeless ways.
A child with braids, so still, so small,
Meets the Great One, who guides us all.
Mountains rise within his chest,
The prairies sleep in his gentle rest.
A thousand herds move strong and free,
Their thunder rolls across the sea.
The tipi stands, its fire bright,
Protected by ancestors’ guiding light.
The circle turns, the path is near,
The spirit world feels warm, so clear.
O Buffalo, so strong, so wise,
Keeper of earth and endless skies,
In her young eyes, your truth is shown:
The land is living, not just stone.
And in that gaze, both brave and kind,
She carries the hopes of all mankind.
Where child and spirit stand as one,
The sacred song of life is sung.
Message for Native People:
Never forget the bond with the land, the buffalo, and the ancestors. Their spirit lives within you. Protect it, honor it, and pass it on—because you are the voice of your people, and the heartbeat of this Earth.

The Crow are also called the Apsáalooke, Absaroka, and Apsaroke. Their name was given them by the Hidatsa, and meant “people [or children] of the large-beaked bird.” Historically, they lived in the Yellowstone River Valley. A Siouan tribe, they once were part of the Hidatsa, living around the headwaters of the upper Mississippi River in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. Later, the Crow moved to the Devil’s Lake region of North Dakota, before splitting with the Hidatsa and moving westward.
Settling in Montana, the tribe split once again into two divisions, called the Mountain Crow and the River Crow. They were first encountered by two Frenchmen in 1743 near the present-day town of Hardin, Montana. When the Lewis and Clark expedition came upon them in 1804, they estimated some 350 lodges with about 3,500 members.

Keanu Reeves was abandoned by his father at 3 years old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. He is dyslexic. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident. His best friend, River Phoenix, died of an overdose. His sister has leukemia.
And with everything that has happened, Keanu Reeves never misses an opportunity to help people in need. When he was filming the movie "The Lake House," he overheard the conversation of two costume assistants; One cried because he would lose his house if he did not pay $20,000 and on the same day Keanu deposited the necessary amount in the woman's bank account; He also donated stratospheric sums to hospitals.
In 2010, on his birthday, Keanu walked into a bakery and bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him.
After winning astronomical sums for the Matrix trilogy, the actor donated more than $50 million to the staff who handled the costumes and special effects - the true heroes of the trilogy, as he called them.
He also gave a Harley-Davidson to each of the stunt doubles. A total expense of several million dollars. And for many successful films, he has even given up 90% of his salary to allow the production to hire other stars.
In 1997 some paparazzi found him walking one morning in the company of a homeless man in Los Angeles, listening to him and sharing his life for a few hours.
Most stars when they make a charitable gesture they declare it to all the media. He has never claimed to be doing charity, he simply does it as a matter of moral principles and not to look better in the eyes of others.
This man could buy everything, and instead every day he gets up and chooses one thing that cannot be bought: To be a good person.
Keanu Reeves’ father is of Native Hawaiian descent

"Wes Studi is a native American Cherokee actor and Vietnam veteran.
You may have seen him in a few movies such as ""Last of the Mohicans"" or ""Dances with Wolves"". Aside from the movies, he is an activist for both Native Americans and wounded combat veterans.
His first language was Cherokee an Iroquoian language and he didn't learn English until he started grade school.
His native language is an endangered language.
In fact, most of the indigenous languages in the Americas are endangered.
More than one thousand separate languages still spoken in the Americas and most of these languages will be extinct by the end of the next century.
Thank you for your service Wes!"

By the age of 10, most children in the United States have been taught all 50 states that make up the country. But centuries ago, the land that is now the United States was a very different place. Over 20 million Native Americans dispersed across over 1,000 distinct tribes, bands, and ethnic groups populated the territory.
The ancestors of living Native Americans arrived in North America about 15 thousand years ago. As a result, a wide diversity of communities, societies, and cultures finally developed on the continent over the millennia. The population figure for Indigenous peoples in the Americas before the 1492 voyage of Christopher Columbus was 70 million or more.
About 562 tribes inhabited the contiguous U.S. territory. Ten largest North American Indian tribes: Arikara, Cherokee, Iroquois, Pawnee, Sioux, Apache, Eskimo, Comanche, Choctaw, Cree, Ojibwa, Mohawk, Cheyenne, Navajo, Seminole, Hope, Shoshone, Mohican, Shawnee, Mi’kmaq, Paiute, Wampanoag, Ho-Chunk, Chumash, Haida.
Below is the tribal map of Pre-European North America.
The old map below gives a Native American perspective by placing the tribes in full flower ~ the “Glory Days.” It is pre-contact from across the eastern sea or, at least, before that contact seriously affected change. Stretching over 400 years, the time of contact was quite different from tribe to tribe. For instance, the “Glory Days” of the Maya and Aztec came to an end very long before the interior tribes of other areas, with some still resisting almost until the 20th Century.
At one time, numbering in the millions, the native peoples spoke close to 4,000 languages.
The Americas’ European conquest, which began in 1492, ended in a sharp drop in the Native American population through epidemics, hostilities, ethnic cleansing, and slavery.
When the United States was founded, established Native American tribes were viewed as semi-independent nations, as they commonly lived in communities separate from white immigrants.
“The Map That Should Have Been in Every Book”
This map breathes
not ink on paper,
but bloodlines and voices
woven through rivers and roots.
Before borders carved the earth,
these lands had names that sang:
Navajo, Haida, Lakota,
Carib, Maya, Shawnee.
Every mountain had a memory,
every lake, a legend;
the wind itself spoke
in a thousand mother tongues.
Yet the classrooms stayed silent,
and the children learned
that discovery began with ships
not with hearts that already belonged.
If only this map hung
in every school, every home,
perhaps the world would remember
who first called this land Mother.
Let them see the colors of the tribes,
the stories drawn in smoke and soil,
and know:
the map was never lost
only hidden.

In Memory of Graham Greene (1952–2023)
Graham Greene was more than an actor.
He was a storyteller, a cultural bridge, and a quiet guardian of Native American identity.
Through his roles, he gave Indigenous characters something Hollywood had long denied them — depth, dignity, and humanity.
He refused stereotypes. He chose truth.
Whether portraying elders, warriors, fathers, or healers, Graham Greene carried Native presence with respect — reminding the world that Indigenous people are not relics of the past, but living cultures with voices, values, and wisdom.
Beyond the screen, he represented pride without anger, strength without noise, and resistance through integrity.
For many Native youth, seeing him meant seeing themselves — not as myths, but as real, resilient people.
His legacy is not only in films and awards.
It lives in every story told honestly,
every culture represented with care,
and every future generation that knows their identity matters.
Thank you, Graham Greene,
for honoring the ancestors,
for protecting the stories,
and for reminding the world that Native voices belong — yesterday, today, and always.
🪶 Rest in honor.

Jay Silverheels, best known for his portrayal of Tonto in The Lone Ranger television series (1949–1957), was a groundbreaking actor of Indigenous heritage who helped break stereotypes in Hollywood. Born Harold J. Smith on May 26, 1912, on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario, Canada, he was an accomplished athlete before turning to acting. He excelled in lacrosse and even played professional sports before a chance encounter led him to Hollywood. His rugged looks and natural screen presence earned him roles in western films throughout the 1940s, but it was his role as Tonto that made him a cultural icon. Playing the loyal companion to Clayton Moore’s Lone Ranger, Silverheels brought dignity and intelligence to a character that could have been a simple sidekick.

Despite the limitations imposed by Hollywood at the time, Silverheels worked tirelessly to improve the portrayal of Native Americans on screen. He often spoke out against stereotypical depictions and sought roles that showcased Indigenous people in a more positive light. Beyond acting, he was a mentor and advocate for young Native American actors, encouraging them to pursue careers in the film industry. After his acting career slowed, Silverheels remained active in community work and even founded the Indian Actors Workshop. He passed away on March 5, 1980, but his contributions to film and representation continue to be honored today.

"The villains are fairly obvious in “Flower Moon,” but Scorsese asks audiences to take a wider look at systemic racism, historical injustice and the corruptive influence of power and money, intriguingly tying together our past and present." ~ Brian Truitt,
"Gladstone, in the rare Scorsese film that gives center stage to a female character, is the emotional core here, and it's her face that stays etched in our memory."
~ Jocelyn Noveck
“This is for every little Rez kid, every little urban kid, every little Native kid out there who has a dream and is seeing themselves represented in our stories told by ourselves, in our own words..." ~ Lily Gladstone

In 1961, Your mother Holt married bank manager Gilbert LaPiere, who adopted Cher (under the name Cheryl LaPiere) and Georganne, and enrolled them at Montclair College Preparatory School, a private school in Encino, whose students were mostly from affluent families. The school's upper-class environment presented a challenge for Cher; biographer Connie Berman wrote, "[she] stood out from the others in both her striking appearance and outgoing personality." A former classmate commented, "I'll never forget seeing Cher for the first time. She was so special ... She was like a movie star, right then and there ... She said she was going to be a movie star and we knew she would." Despite not being an excellent student, Cher was intelligent and creative, according to Berman. She earned high grades, excelling in French and English classes. As an adult, she discovered that she had dyslexia. Cher's unconventional behavior stood out: she performed songs for students during the lunch hours and surprised peers when she wore a midriff-baring top.She later recalled, "I was never really in school. I was always thinking about when I was grown up and famous.
