“Avatar: Fire and Ash” has once again proven that technology and humanity work best together, and only when humans are in control.

One aspect of the film that is getting praise by audiences and critics alike is the new adversary Varang, and we had the opportunity to speak to the actress behind the intimidating but complex new character.

Spanish-Swiss actress Oona Chaplin is best known for her role of Talisa Stark in “Game of Thrones”, but she is also known for being part of a very famous film family - she is the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, the iconic English filmmaker known for storytelling and groundbreaking film techniques in the early 1900’s.

In our exclusive interview, find out why Oona used lava fields and heartbreak as inspiration for the movement and personality of Varang, why she sees parallels between her grandfather and James Cameron’s technological breakthroughs in films, and why she feels technology is “worthless” without having the spark of human spirit and a good story behind it.

Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled the plan for a CARE court in 2022 in order to assist family members, first responders and doctors to petition courts on behalf of those with severe mental illnesses who couldn’t take care of themselves.

In 2025 the program seems to have had little positive impact, with some family members of those put into the program saying it makes it harder to have their loved ones forced into treatment because CARE court is a voluntary program.

Latin jazz legend and bandleader Oscar Hernández Is bringing New York’s Latino sounds to SF for the Holidays as his legendary Latin jazz group Spanish Harlem Orchestra arrives to San Francisco as part of holiday season programming.

As they celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, they released their tenth album, "Salsa Navidad", which sees them mix traditional Puerto Rican and American Christmas music to create something vibrant and a perfect uplifting sound to the holiday season.

We had the opportunity to speak with Oscar about the album, the legacy of Latin jazz, and his own history with music, from growing up in the South Bronx to learning to play the piano and start a legendary career in the world of jazz, to working with icons like Celia Cruz and Rubén Blades, and the importance of teaching Latinos about their own history, music and strengths.

Spanish Harlem Orchestra will be performing this Dec 13 & 14 at the Miner Auditorium in San Francisco.
