The drywall guy just packed up, demanded his final check, and told me this room is '100% ready for primer.' 🎨 READY?? I can see every single seam from the hallway! 📉 He said, 'The primer acts as a filler, it'll smooth all that out.' 🤥 FILLER?? It's paint, not concrete! I feel like he just slapped one coat of mud on and ran. Do I pay him or make him sand until his arms fall off?

Contractor quoted me $400 to fix these two tiny holes. 💸🧱 He says, 'Because of the texture, I have to skim coat the entire wall corner-to-corner to hide the repair.' 🤥 SKIM COAT?? The tape measure shows it's literally a 3-inch patch! 📏 I feel like he's trying to turn a 20-minute job into a full day of labor. Is this actually necessary or is he ripping me off?

Refund? Just got my roof replaced and this material was left over. Guy just came and picked it up. What happens with extra material? Does the insurance company get a refund? Should I give them a heads up? Thanks for any insight

Renovating a bath and discovered mold in the wall. Unfortunately, on the other side of that wall is a massive built in cabinet that we built only a year ago—don’t want to rip it out. What should we do?

I paid a plumber $1,200 for this rough-in. 💸 He used those press fittings instead of soldering and charged me a premium for 'speed.' 🏎️💨 But look at the shut-off valves! The handles are so close to the drywall edge that you can't even turn them! 🧱📉 I pointed it out and he said, 'The drywall will be cut back for the tile anyway.' 🤥 WILL IT?? Or am I going to be stuck with stuck valves? I feel like he was just lazy. Do I dispute the charge?

I just want to cry! This remodeling is putting
me over the edge . I picked out this natural
stone tile with my designers (the light colored
ones) not realizing the tile varied a lot in color.
The tile guy put it up and I think it looks like
MindCraft! What should I do? Keep it and it will
grow on me or tear it all down and put up
different tile? HELP

There’s a weird chain in my attic, its wrapped around a support beam, and goes down a hole where the roof meets the floor. One can pull on the chain quite a bit and a lot comes up, but something stops it from coming all the way up. And there’s some kind of weight on it so it drags right back down if you let go. Genuinely mystified, I can’t imagine what on earth it would be intended for. House dates to the 1950s though I have no idea if it was there all along. Sorry, no bananas in the attic.

Recently purchased a home and need ideas for this large wall. It’s directly in front of you when you walk through the front door and the walkway isn’t large enough for an entryway table. I’m thinking paneling and paint but not sure what, looking for ideas!

When soft-spot patches turn into this — what’s the next homeowner conversation at your company?

This is the moment that separates REAL professionals from so called pros who are afraid of the hard conversation.

Once shingles are off and the decking looks like this, you’re past “soft spot patches.” At that point, patching isn’t a solution — it’s avoidance.

A lot of contractors see this and hesitate.
They wonder why they didn’t see this coming.
Most think about how much money they will lose fixing it the right way.
They worry about losing the job.
They if the homeowner will think they’re chasing money and how will they get the homeowner to understand the truth.

Most true professionals know covering compromised decking could do many things like trap moisture. And trapped moisture doesn’t stop — it spreads even with proper ventilation and good underlayment. That’s when rot accelerates, fasteners lose holding power, and the problem comes back larger and “MOLD” expensive than before.

Real professionals speak up at this moment. They explain:
• What failed
• Why compromised decking can’t be patched safely
• What happens when moisture is sealed in instead of corrected

Not emotionally.
Not defensively.
Just clearly.

Most homeowners don’t lose trust when you tell the truth.
They lose trust when they find out later you knew — and didn’t say anything.

This is the part of the job no one teaches:
How to make the right call, explain it clearly, and protect both the homeowner and your reputation.

If you’ve dealt with this situation — or struggled with how to handle it — feel free to message me.
