WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA - Just a few days ago, we tried Square Pie Guys pizza for the first time via their pop-up at Local Kitchens in Lafayette, California. We were pleasantly surprised by the pizza. Sometimes, square pizza and deep dish in general can be overly dry and a little boring. Square Pie Guys pizzas were neither of these things. It feels like eating a big hunk of focaccia bread topped with primo toppings, and the crispy, cheesy crust really stood out....

Moraga, CA – Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) are conducting a prescribed burn today, January 13, in the open space behind St. Mary’s College practice fields. The burn, which is part of the Tunnel/East Bay Hills Shaded Fuel Break project, is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., depending on air quality conditions. The project is designed to reduce wildfire hazards, maintain the shaded fuel break, and improve conditions for native plants and wildlife....

But the point is driven home this month as one of the last remaining budget clothing stores at Broadway Plaza announced it would be shutting down. The Old Navy store at the Plaza is reportedly closing. In a shopping center filled with upscale boutiques and anchored by the very fancy Nordstrom department store, Old Navy was a bit of an anomaly....

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake struck near Concord, California, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 8:49 a.m. local time. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake's epicenter was located approximately 1 kilometer from Concord, at a depth of 14.2 kilometers. We felt it here in Lafayette! Residents in the San Francisco Bay Area reported feeling light to moderate shaking. The USGS's Community Internet Intensity Map showed reports from cities including Concord, Vallejo, Berkeley, and San Francisco, with the strongest intensity recorded as level IV on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale....

Pleasanton, CA — Kohl’s has announced plans to close its store at 4525 Rosewood Drive in Pleasanton as part of a larger decision to shutter 27 underperforming locations across the country. The closures are set to be completed by April 2025. One local restaurant, Koi Palace, has defined the Bay Area dim sum scene for almost 30 years.
