Showing little grace, Cindy Chavez wished luck to (but didn’t congratulate) Matt Mahan on his victory as San Jose Mayor, and issued what could be interpreted as a veiled threat in the form of a reference to a “two year term.”

Mahan said he appreciated Chavez' 'most gracious concession in the true spirit of our robust democracy,' and congratulated her on a strong campaign.

The Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury is expected to drop a report on the 49ers’ political influence in Santa Clara this morning. The critical conclusions are already drawing fire from the Niners organization, which says jury members have conflicts of interest and that no effort was made to get opposing views. The timing of the report’s release amidst a tightly contested election also has also cast it in a political light.

With few exceptions, the grand jury report’s observations, conclusions and recommendations landed squarely on one side of the city’s political divide–led by Mayor Lisa Gillmor–that was on the losing end of the 2020 council elections.
