But here’s the fascinating part—he wasn’t only a Marine; he also performed with the Marine Corps Band, playing instruments such as the horn and tuba. 🎺✨

Years later, that disciplined young musician would become Adam Cartwright, the eldest son of Ben Cartwright and one of the most memorable faces on the Ponderosa. 🐎🌲

On screen they were brothers. Off screen they barely said hello 🤠

Adam and Little Joe rode together on the Ponderosa from 1959 to 1965. But the truth? Michael Landon said Pernell Roberts very rarely, if ever, spoke to him.

Pernell was a classically trained Shakespearean actor. He felt Bonanza was beneath him, complained about the scripts, about the quality, about everything. He wanted out.

Little Joe wanted to stay, to build the Ponderosa, to make it family.

So in 1965 Adam rode away and never came back. Michael stayed 14 years till the end.

Two brothers who loved each other in the story, two actors who never found friendship in real life.

Big Hoss had the biggest heart at home too ❤️

Off the Ponderosa, Dan Blocker was not just Hoss Cartwright. He was husband to Dolphia Parker from 1954 till the end in 1972, and dad to four.

Twin girls first - Debra Lee and Danna Lynn, born in 1953, identical twins who loved a quiet life away from cameras. Then David in 1955 who became an Emmy winning producer, and Dirk in 1957 who followed Dad into acting.

All four names start with D - just like Dad Dan.

At home in 1962, you could see him with Dolphia and all four kids around him, that same big smile from Bonanza but just for them.

Hoss taught us about family on the Ponderosa. Dan lived it for real every day at home 🤠✨

Pa Cartwright could SING 🎶

We knew Lorne Greene as Ben Cartwright, the wise father of the Ponderosa from 1959 to 1973. But that deep voice you loved? It made him a music star too.

In the 1960s, at the height of Bonanza, he recorded country and folk albums with that rich, warm voice. In 1964 his spoken ballad Ringo went to Number One in America, bigger than The Beatles that week.

He sang Bonanza himself, told the Saga of the Ponderosa in song, and brought the spirit of the West to vinyl.

Ben Cartwright didn't just build a ranch. He built a whole soundtrack for it.
