We believe Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t confined to a single month — we, Silicon Valley Latino, celebrate it 365 days a year by spotlighting entrepreneurs who blend culture, creativity, and community into every product and experience. 🇺🇸💪🏽

This week, we’re proud to highlight a few exceptional Latino-owned businesses that are bringing flavor, tradition, and innovation to the table — from the Pacific Northwest to the heart of the Willamette Valley:

🍺 Xicha Brewing (Salem, OR) — A Latino-owned brewery and Latinx kitchen where craft beer meets cultura. Every pint and plate celebrates community, heritage, and the joy of sharing Latin flavors. 🌮🍻 xichabrewing.com

🍏 La Familia Cider (Salem, OR) — Family-owned and inspired by traditional aguas frescas, this cider brand blends authentic Mexican flavors with the Pacific Northwest’s best apples. A refreshing taste of home! 🍎 lafamiliacider.com

🥐 Dough Hook Bake Shop (McMinnville, OR) — A Latina-owned bakery crafting small-batch pastries, breads, and sweet treats that bring people together — one delicious bite at a time. 🥖doughhookbakeshop.com

Cramoisi Vineyard (Dundee Hills, OR) — Founded by Sophia Torres-McKay, this boutique winery celebrates the fusion of heritage and terroir with organic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay — rooted in love, soil, and family. 🍇 🍷 cramoisivineyard.com

From Oregon’s vineyards to its brew houses and bakeries, these Latino-owned businesses remind us how culture, craftsmanship, and community thrive — not just in October, but all year long. 🌎

From the southern East Coast to the northern West Coast, and everywhere in between this great country Latina-owned businesses continue to shape our cultural and economic landscape — creating spaces where tradition meets innovation and where community thrives.

This week, in our newsletter we highlighted Belen de la Cruz’s business, and we decided to expand the highlight to include several Latinas that are making an impact across the US. So we’re proud to spotlight several Latina entrepreneurs whose work exemplifies the spirit of leadership, creativity, and cultural pride that defines our community.

Belen de la Cruz Empanadas & Pastries — Atlanta, GA
Founded by Belen de la Cruz, this bakery has become a beloved destination for authentic Argentine empanadas and pastries made with heart, heritage, and a touch of home. Each recipe tells a story of resilience, family, and the joy of sharing culture through food.

"I'm so thankful to have a place like Belen de la Cruz in my area. Eating the delicious empanadas and visiting the friendly faces are a weekly tradition for my family that I hope to continue for many years."— Matt Underwood, Marietta, GA

Hot Plate Brewing Company — Pittsfield, MA
A Latina-owned craft brewery and taproom born from daring creativity (yes — brewed on a hot plate when gas was cut off!) ─ committed to craft, community, and inclusion. Their taproom offers beer, gluten-free options, coffee, and safe space for all.

Gonzales Wine Company — Portland, OR
Founded by winemaker Cristina Gonzales, Gonzales Wine Company crafts small-production, low-intervention wines that speak honestly of the Pacific Northwest’s terroir. From aromatic whites to bold reds — and her signature Malbec — Cristina pours her heritage and commitment to equity into every bottle.

She’s also a vocal advocate for vineyard workers, championing more inclusive tasting rooms (including Spanish-language experiences) and equitable practices in the wine industry.

Mujeres Brew House — San Diego, CA
100% female-owned and operated, Mujeres Brew House crafts beer, builds community, and celebrates culture in Barrio Logan. Founded by Carmen Favela, this brewing hub is more than just beer — it’s a space where women lead, Latinx voices are amplified, and craft meets community.

Café Kacao — Oklahoma City, OK
Founded by Veronica Zelada, Café Kacao transforms her grandmother’s Guatemalan recipes into beloved Latin American dishes, coffees, and brunch staples. From deep cultural roots to local acclaim, this café is a tribute to heritage, community, and the belief that “every meal is an adventure waiting to be savored.”

This past August, UnidosUS () recognized Teresa Romero, President of the United Farmworkers Of America (UFW ), with the Maclovio Barraza Award for Leadership at their annual conference.

Romero made history as the first Latina and the first immigrant woman to lead a national labor union in the United States. Under her leadership, the UFW continues its historic mission: ensuring farmworkers are treated with dignity and respect, while advocating for fair wages, safe working conditions, and protections for those who put food on America’s tables.

At Silicon Valley Latino, this recognition resonates deeply. In 2023, we proudly presented our documentary CAMPESINOS: America’s Unsung Heroes to members of Congress, shining a light on the vital contributions of farmworkers. Romero’s award underscores the urgency of amplifying their voices and stories.

As we step into Hispanic Heritage Month, we at Silicon Valley Latino are reminded of why we launched this platform nearly 14 years ago: to highlight, amplify, and celebrate the incredible stories of our community.
Since 2011, we’ve proudly shined a light on Cultura Ambassadors, Advisory Board Members, and extraordinary leaders, from various industries, whose journeys inspire and uplift us and future generations.
While this month is a special time to honor our heritage, at SVL we know our Cultura deserves to be celebrated every single day of the year.
As we approach 14 years, we invite you to continue supporting our mission, elevating Latino voices, sharing our success stories, and creating spaces where our community is seen, valued, and recognized.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, we thank you for being part of our journey—and for helping us continue to tell the powerful stories that shape the future.

At Silicon Valley Latino, we believe that wellness is a lifelong journey—one that grows even more meaningful during pregnancy. Too often, physical activity is overlooked at this stage, but the truth is, exercise is not only safe, it’s essential for both mom and baby.
In her latest guest blog, Liz from Elite Performance Gym shares why staying active during pregnancy builds strength, eases recovery, boosts confidence, and supports healthier outcomes for mothers and their little ones.
This piece is a powerful reminder that when we invest in our own well-being with persistence and care, we’re also investing in the next generation.

Pregnancy is a transformative time in a woman’s life — physically, emotionally, and mentally. As much as I wanted to focus on the health of my baby, I learned it was equally important for myself and mothers to prioritize their own well-being. I noticed that physical activity is often overlooked and neglected! Contrary to outdated beliefs that pregnant women should avoid exertion, modern medical research strongly supports the benefits of exercise during pregnancy — for both mother and baby! Here are the reasons why!
Physical Benefits
Improved Stamina and Strength: Pregnancy puts additional strain on the body, especially on the muscles of the back, abdomen, and pelvic floor. Regular exercise can help strengthen these areas, reducing common pregnancy-related discomforts such as back pain and pelvic pressure.

This week marks a historic moment for Latino literature in the United States. After 45 years of leadership, Dr. Nicolás Kanellos, founder of Arte Público Press, is stepping down, passing the torch to a new generation committed to amplifying Latino voices.
We first came across this story in the Houston Chronicle and felt it was important to share with our community. Arte Público Press represents the power of Latino storytelling, and this milestone deserves recognition.
Founded in 1979 at the University of Houston, Arte Público Press is the nation’s oldest and largest Latino-focused publishing house. Over the decades, it has published more than 700 titles, bringing forward powerful works from acclaimed authors such as Sandra Cisneros and Victor Villaseñor. Its mission has always been clear: to ensure Latino stories are told, celebrated, and preserved.
As Dr. Kanellos transitions into retirement, Dr. Gabriela Baeza Ventura steps in as Executive Director, prepared to expand the press’s reach into the digital era. Her vision includes advancing the U.S. Latino Digital Humanities Center, fostering new talent, and building pathways for emerging Latino authors whose voices are too often overlooked.
At Silicon Valley Latino, we celebrate @ for its unwavering dedication to representation and cultural preservation. This transition not only honors the legacy of Dr. Kanellos but also reaffirms a powerful truth: our stories matter, and our voices will continue to shape the future of American literature.
