➕ Can architecture embrace impermanence? How to (Un)Build a House by Clara Mu He (.muhe), developed at Harvard Graduate School of Design () under the mentorship of Toshiko Mori (.mori_), reimagines building as a reversible and intentional act.

At the core of this thesis is a striking conceptual model—both a study and a statement—that visualizes architecture as a system designed not only for assembly, but for careful disassembly. Through modular strategies and material reuse, the model challenges conventional ideas of permanence and invites us to see structures as temporal, adaptable frameworks.

Awarded the James Templeton Kelley Prize and the Peter Rice Prize, this work is a powerful reflection on circular design, structural innovation, and the future of responsible architecture.

Known for his sculptural structures that merge art, movement, and innovation, Calatrava’s creative process begins long before the first beam is placed — it starts with a sketch.

His fluid, expressive drawings capture the essence of form and structure, often resembling anatomical studies, natural patterns, and kinetic movement. These works on paper are not mere studies but integral parts of his design language, translating vision into architecture. From bridges that seem to defy gravity to cultural centers and transportation hubs with dynamic, organic lines, Calatrava’s work consistently explores the dialogue between engineering precision and poetic expression.
