Join  for the second Saturday opening of “Coming Into View, “ a debut solo exhibit featuring Visual Philosophy Studio artist Lisanne Eng of .

Saturday, September 13, 5-8p
1065 The Alameda, San Jose

This exhibit marks a moment of emergence and a deeply felt, personal turning point — an artist stepping into visibility after a nonlinear path shaped by structure, science, and now intuition. This debut solo exhibition reflects a creative journey in progress, unfolding quietly but steadily for this artist, and tells the story of an artist becoming visible.

Lisanne Eng is the artist behind Makana Arts. She is currently working with a variety of materials, including preserved moss, wood, concrete, and glass, to create uniquely designed artwork that is handcrafted in Silicon Valley, California.

A few years ago, Lisanne made the tough decision to take a break from her previous career to create art that reflects her fascination with shapes/forms, patterns, color, and textures in nature and the world around us. Although she has made a substantial change from a traditional career path, she has found many ways to use her training and experience in engineering and product development to address challenges both in design and business.

“Makana” is the Hawaiian word for gift, and it reinforces how grateful she is for all that goes into creating her work and how she wants to share it with the world. “Grow Your Gifts” is a constant reminder to cultivate what matters the most.

Born and raised in San José, Alyssarhaye Graciano is a trilingual fiber artist. Once a linguistic specialist in the tech industry, she left her day job to pursue a career in the arts. By day, she works as the Visual Arts Curator at MACLA over on South First St. Alyssarhaye continues her art practice through installations, pattern design, workshops, exhibitions, and art mentorship.

Fidencio Fifield-Perez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, but raised in the U.S. after his family migrated. His current work examines borders, edges, and the people who must traverse them. In his work, Fifield-Perez’s interdisciplinary practice centers on the materiality of paper ephemera, everyday self-documents discarded after fulfilling their purpose. For Fifield-Perez, printmaking, collage, and painting are ways to visualize and connect past and present mental landscapes.

’ free weekly lecture series hosts noteworthy regional, national, and international artists, designers, and art historians speaking about their practice and contemporary issues related to the Humanities and the Arts.

Unless otherwise indicated, all lecture presentations occur on Tuesday evenings from 5 to 6p in the Art Lecture Hall (Art Building Room 133). These events are free of charge and open to the public.

Join for an evening of CircleSinging with VOICES, led by David Worm. CircleSinging is a participatory form of community singing that emphasizes improvisation and collaboration. Sometimes called vocal jamming or vocal orchestra, CircleSinging dates back to the earliest forms of human singing and is currently practiced all over the world.

About Circlesinging:
CircleSinging involves a group of singers, typically arranged in a circle, who spontaneously create music together. A facilitator usually starts by improvising a musical line and then teaching it to one section of the circle. Other sections of the circle then add their own improvisational parts, until everyone has joined, creating a new, spontaneous song. CircleSinging is a “mistake-free zone”—everyone is welcome.
VOICES is led by David Worm and was formed in March 2020 in response to the pandemic shutdown.

About David Worm:
David Worm is a vocalist and instrumentalist whose musical career spans the globe. It has been marked by decades of collaboration and innovation, including his longtime work with Bobby McFerrin and founding roles in vocal ensembles such as Voicestra, WeBe3, SoVoSo, and Motion. He has performed with renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea, and Meredith Monk and composed vocal scores for acclaimed dance companies and film projects.
