It only takes 5 minutes to...ππΎ
Increase your energy levels - practicing yoga in the morning, even if itβs very gentle, creates heat in your body. As you gently wake up your muscles, blood flow increases so your cells get infused with more oxygen, giving you a natural pick-me-up.
Alleviate stiffness and stave off joint pain that can arise during a day of work where you are either sedentary or standing still - As your muscles warm, they are able stretch more readily, which releases the pressure on your joints and your spine. You may even hear small popping and cracking noises as you move. Thatβs totally natural and super healthy way to start your day!
Help you focus - Practicing yoga allows you to stay in the here and now by keeping your attention on your bodily movements and your breath patterns. When you do this first thing in the morning, you train your brain to remain present and focused on what you're doing in each moment. Itβs a practice of mindfulness that not only helps you when youβre doing yoga, but also in other areas of your life.
Reduce anxiety and stress - A key aspect of practicing yoga is pranayama, or breathwork. You can use breathwork alone at the beginning or at the end of a yoga practice. But it is often paired with movement during your yoga practice to help regulate your nervous system, which allows you to release tension and soften your muscles. Another way of approaching this is to use intentional breathwork to release tension in your muscles and/or negative thoughts while holding a yoga pose.
Prepare your body for functional movement - A more vigorous yoga practice in the morning can engage your muscles in ways that prepare you for all of the activities you will do throughout the day. Simple things like walking up and down the stairs, picking up heavy objects, cooking a meal, or even bending over to pick something up or tie your shoes can put your body in positions that can result in injury if youβre muscles are weak or your joints are tight. When you practice yoga in the morning, you are ensuring not only that you can successfully complete all of these things, but that they will feel easier because your body is strong and mobile.
