(HD1) On Monday, May 18 at 2pm Jesse “Chuy” Varela, welcomes Hani Khayatei Houssaini, a young trombonist and bassist with the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble, to share his insights into the world of Arabic jazz with a curated playlist and commentary.

For the last few years, KCSM JAZZ 91 has collaborated with the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble as part of the BHS Honors Project initiated by director Sarah Cline. The premise of the project is to allow these young jazz musicians to explore other facets of the jazz world other than playing their instruments. One of the options was to produce a radio program about their instrument or a particular aspect of jazz.

KCSM Jazz 91 presents an unforgettable KCSM evening inspired by the music, stories, and legacy of Miles Davis.

For generations, KCSM has connected listeners not just to the music, but to the stories, history, and community surrounding jazz. Musings on Miles continues that tradition—bringing together legendary voices, emerging artists, and listeners who understand the power of this music to connect people across generations.

Join us for a one-night-only gathering with Bay Area jazz legend Sonny Buxton, who will share personal stories, reflections, and memories of Miles Davis in a live conversation with KCSM’s Greg Bridges.

The evening will also feature live performances from the Erik Jekabson Quintet and rising young trumpeter Max Erhardt, representing the next generation inspired by Miles and the tradition of jazz improvisation.

Set inside the intimate atmosphere of Press Club SF, Musings on Miles brings together live jazz, conversation, storytelling, and the warmth of the KCSM community for one of the most distinctive jazz evenings of the spring.
