Hundreds of miles from the ocean's shore, caught up with and on progressing in artificial waves, falling back in love with surfing through teaching, and inspiring the next generation of soul surfers.

"It takes time to study the language of the ocean," says Kassia. "The language of the ocean is one part, but the technical side of surfing is something that you get out of repetition. That’s what [wave pools] offer: that opportunity to really focus on refining your technique. That’s something that is going to expedite people’s learning trajectory. But really, to be a well-rounded surfer, you need both."

Wildcard is looking cool as a cucumber heading into the hotly anticipated Tahiti CT showdown.

“I feel like I have spent more time out here than anyone on the women’s tour, and maybe even some of the men," says Vahine. "I’m definitely comfortable out here. I just want to enjoy the experience of seeing the world’s best surf at my home break and even try and catch the best wave of my life in a heat.”

This event will complete the first fully combined CT season for men’s and women’s in the history of the sport.

Athletes have expressed mixed emotions about this breathtakingly beautiful wave of consequence, but one thing's for certain: women's surfing will never look back.
