On Oct. 25, 2025, the Street Smarts Program hosted their inaugural Community Bike Festival at Iron Horse Middle School in San Ramon. The event took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with admission free of charge. Following in the steps of previous years’ Bike Rodeos, the festival aimed to encourage safe biking skills for children and adults in San Ramon, Danville and Alamo amid wider momentum in the Tri-Valley Area towards protecting the roads for all users.
“It’s education for the whole family,” Program Director Dolores Pita said. “We’re encouraging people to ride their bikes to the bike festival because there will be bike parking, right by the Iron Horse Trail. They can ride their e-bikes as a family, park and go right to the festival.”

On the evening of Sept. 12, 2025, Dougherty Valley High School cancelled the remainder of their East Bay Athletic League games for the rest of the season, effectively eliminating two future games versus Livermore and Granada, as well the rivalry game against Dublin.

Before the season began, Dougherty was already at a disadvantage. In April of 2025, Gwangee Pittman was hired to fill the position of head coach at Dougherty Valley for the foreseeable future. Coach Pittman previously coached across the Bay Area after playing for Utah State University. This late coaching hire led to a lack of offseason preparation for the upcoming fall.

“Today’s game went really well and my partner and I performed strongly together. While I am sad it’s over, senior night has been such a fun experience.” Ajina said.

The coaches offered their own advice and hopes for the seniors.

“They have shown great tenacity and drive, learning to adapt and grow through challenges,” varsity coach Sanjith Senthikumar said.”They have and will continue to face difficult days and tough obstacles in college. I hope they carry and maintain the confidence and drive they expressed on the team in their college years.”

Coach Erin Bennett expressed similar sentiments.

The Dougherty Valley varsity women’s water polo team claimed another solid win on Tuesday, Oct. 21, defeating the Irvington Vikings 9–3. The team played an intense night time game that showcased both their skills and determination.
“We came out a little slow,” Coach Zenoni stated. “It’s hard because we haven’t had a later game like this, but after the first quarter, they really adjusted. They all got on the same page, started communicating, and pushed through. It went from one to zero to four, five, six, seven pretty quick.”
The coach praised the team’s resilience and emphasized that their success came from collective effort, rather than individual moments. “They all did really, really well,” he said. “Water polo is a team sport.”
The coach also highlighted how Simona Rosicker’s position as the goalie was largely overlooked.
“One of the most overlooked positions is the goalie; they don’t get to score, but they make all the crucial blocks,” Zenoni said. “Our goalie has really stepped up and is making big saves, which is rewarding to see.”
As the season comes to a close, the team’s focus now turns towards finishing strong, both in skill and in spirit.
“I want them to keep building on what they’ve learned,” Zenoni expressed. “We’re improving tactics in passing, driving, and running drop defenses. But more importantly, I want them to enjoy these last few weeks together.”
For the team’s seniors, this final stretch carries extra meaning. As they go off to college, they have to leave their team behind, along with all the memories they’ve made with the team.
“For some of them, this might be their last competitive water polo [game],” Zenoni said. “I want them to look back and say, ‘We had fun, we improved, and we gave it our all.’”

The Dougherty Valley boys water polo team made a splash on Tuesday, taking down the Irvington Vikings with an impressive 16–3 win.
Senior Noah Marges reflected on the team’s success. He explained that the team started off strong right from the first whistle.
“We just started off really aggressive,” he said. “Every time we had the opportunity to score, we just shot the ball.”
Throughout the game, Dougherty Valley’s communication and coordination stood out, especially in the second quarter. When asked about the team’s growth, Marges credited better awareness and trust among teammates.
“I think I’m louder now,” he said. “I’m better at running plays and letting my person know when I need help. We’re just closer as a team, and that helps a lot.”
Junior Bobbie Duong shared a similar perspective. He highlighted practices that eventually contributed to the win.“How we really improved on communication is mostly from in-game experience,” he explained. “In practice, we make sure we keep talking so that [talking] becomes the standard in a game. It’s something we work on all the time.”
The Wildcats’ chemistry was apparent, both in their play and their energy. Late in the game, with the team leading by double digits, a lighthearted moment unfolded. Their goalie, Isaac Tan, decided to sub out for a break, and in a confident twist, Duong jumped into the goal.
“It was kind of random,” Duong said. “Our goalie was getting tired, so [Coach Cyndi Oji-Marchese] had me switch into the goalie cap. It was just a fun moment since we were ahead.”
As the season winds down, both players have their eyes set on continued improvement. Marges noted his goal of better ball placement, while Duong hopes for improved opportunities to score.
“Before the season ends, I want to get open more and create more chances to score,” Duong added. “As a team, we just need to keep communicating, keep our passes clean, and keep playing our game.”

The DVHS womens varsity water polo team faced a tough game this week, falling 16–5 to Monte Vista. Despite the loss, they played with determination and unity, demonstrating noticeable progress as the season continued.
Senior Charlotte Correia reflected on her performance and the team’s effort after the match. When asked about how she felt when she played, Correia said she noted strengths and areas for improvement.
“Today’s game was okay,” she said. “Monte Vista is an amazing team. They’ve always been strong in water polo. I think we struggled with movement and were a little stagnant at times, which hurt us. But overall, it wasn’t terrible. I think my shots were pretty good, and I managed to make two goals, which I’m proud of.”
Going into the game, Correia knew it would be a challenging matchup.
“We knew Monte Vista was going to be a powerhouse,” she explained. “I tried to focus on the small things, getting a goal, a good drive, or a steal. Sometimes winning doesn’t mean the scoreboard; it’s about those little victories that make you better as a player.”
Correia also discussed how the team plans to improve in their upcoming games.
“Driving is definitely something we need to work on,” she said. “Our defense is solid, but offensively, we get stuck sometimes. When there’s not enough movement, we end up forcing bad shots or turning the ball over. Next game, we’re going to focus more on driving and movement.”
Despite the loss, Correia emphasized that the team’s morale remained high.
“I love my team so much,” she said with a smile. “Even after losses, the first thing I hear is, ‘It’s okay, you fought hard.’ Everyone’s so positive and supportive. We pick each other up no matter what, and that’s what makes this team special.”

On October 7, 8 and 14, the DVHS music program held its annual fall concerts featuring its choir, band and orchestra students in the performing arts center.
The band concert, held on October 14, featured guest artist Dr. Jonathan Latta, a professor at the University of the Pacific and the director of the Pacific Pep Band. Latta performed with Jazz Band and the Wind Ensembles as a soloist.
A standout piece was Wind Ensemble 2’s “Cheerio” - an upbeat tribute to the University of the Pacific’s band arrangements, as Gibson and Musiel graduated from the school, which featured peppy vocals and a performance by Gibson. Other notable songs included Jazz Band’s warm and lively “Just Friends” and Wind Ensemble 2’s “Concertino for Solo Percussionist and Band” in which Latta played the timpani, marimba, vibes, and drumset.
DVHS’s choir performed songs such as “A’Rovin” from Vocal Ensemble 2, “Dance!” from Treble Clef and “Time” from Concert Choir. They concluded their performance with “You Will Be Found” from “Dear Evan Hansen”, sung by all the choir students. Notable pieces from DVHS’s orchestra included Chamber Orchestra’s “Serenade, After Swedish Melodies” and Silver Orchestra’s harmonic rendition of “Selections from The Lion King.”
