It was an exciting afternoon for a pair of Stonegate Village Assisted Living residents, Ray Reddick and Dave Cedzynski.

Reddick, formerly of St. Clair Shores and Cedzynski, formerly of Forester, made the trip to Kent Miller's farm, southwest of Sandusky.

Kent's son, Alan, gave both Reddick and Cedzynski a ride in the family's combine.

They were able to get into the combine thanks to Jeremy Bender, of Bender Builders, who built a platform for his SkyTrack lift. He was assisted by his sons, Jared and Braden.

Sandusky sets special meeting on chief

The Sandusky City Council will meet in special session Monday, Sept. 22 to vote on the contract for a new police chief.

Councilman Larry Mitchell recommended the special session after informing the council last Monday night that the city attorney did not have the contract ready for consideration as expected.

Mitchell is a member of the personnel committee, which will also meet on Sept. 22 at 4:30 p.m. to review the contract prior to the special meeting which is scheduled at 5 p.m.

The personnel committee selected Steve McKenney for the chief’s position, to replace Brett Lester who retired at the end of August.

City Manager Dave Faber negotiated the contract with McKenney last week, and had expected the attorney to have it ready for a council vote Sept. 15.

McKenney is a retired Sanilac County Sheriff’s officer and current Sandusky police officer with 28 years of law enforcement experience, who is assigned to Sandusky Community Schools as a liaison officer.

McKenney was one of two finalists for the chief’s job and was selected over Kelly Trowhill of Sandusky, who has 30 years of law enforcement-related experience in police and private security work but is currently not a certified police officer in Michigan. She works as an independent contractor therapist.

At Monday’s meeting, several citizens and council members were critical of the process that was used to choose the prospective chief, and stated citizens were “in an uproar” on how this and other issues have been handled in city government.

Grand opening of Marlette’s new Dog Park Sept. 17

MARLETTE - The city of Marlette has announced the official grand opening of its new Dog Park
on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the occasion, and the
public is invited to attend.
The Dog Park project was initiated by the Marlette Park + Pool Board and made possible
through the support of the community, fundraising events along with funding from the city. The
new facility will provide a space for residents and their dogs to gather, exercise, and enjoy the
outdoors.
Due to ongoing construction on Chard Street, visitors are asked to park by the Marlette Pool
and access the Dog Park via the walking trail. Signage will be posted to assist with directions.
“The development of the Dog Park reflects the community spirit of Marlette,” said Michele
Mausolf, Chair of the Park + Pool Board. “It is exciting to see this vision come to life, and we
look forward to residents and their pets enjoying it for years to come.”
Bring your furry friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate this new space made just for dogs
and the people who love them.
