I think it’s really easy to compare and get lost in other people’s lives especially when you already feel like you come up short in the important areas.
This wasn’t a pattern that happened when I opened this business. It’s something I’ve always been in, career & motherhood. During grad school I was nursing a newborn on a FaceTime presentation because of the pandemic, when I had Harper I wasn’t eligible for FMLA so I only had 8 weeks of UNPAID leave and had to say goodbye to my 8 week old so I could return to work, when I started this business I felt like I needed to be on my phone 24/7 or I’d fall short. Now I’m learning my boundaries and I still…fall short, I miss deadlines, bedtimes, family gatherings, and when I’m falling short there it usually means I’ve decided to choose them and put my phone down, to enjoy moments with them I’ll never get back, to remind myself this is all for them.
No matter what the future holds, I’m still so proud of everything I’ve done and all with them at the root of it. I’ll keep building, learning, and expanding this until I can’t anymore. And at the end of it all, they’ll know that missed bedtime was so I could afford to take them skiing, or a family trip somewhere, ballet slippers and soccer cleats. They’ll know sacrifices were made so memories could be made.
There’s a lot of us trying to build something with babies in tow. And anyone who says they’re doing it perfectly isn’t being honest. We all fall short when we’re focusing on something important. And many things can be important at the same time.
So if you see a mom friend who’s building something whether it’s building something at home or outside of it, make sure you tell her she’s doing great 🤍
