On Oct. 13, hundreds of Glacier Hills kindergartners through fifth-grade students’ voices blended into a sweet melody that brought a huge smile on the face of achievement coach Jeni Wariner.

Glacier Hills students made history when on Oct. 13, they first sang their new school song, written by a staff member.

When Sandy resident Kristen Wray made her life plan, she didn’t foresee opening her own music studio or winning community awards, though both those things have happened. She minored in music in college and always had a piano student or two on the side, but she started out working as a dental hygienist.

Kristen Wray and her family-owned studio have earned a place in their community’s heart by making learning music fun.

Three years ago, as a Jordan High freshman, Preston Cheney may have surprised his high school classmates by winning the region title and placing ninth at state.

“It felt good,” Jordan High’s Preston Cheney modestly said after winning his third golf region title.

The new Public Works campus is completely designed with two more phases needing to be constructed. Phase 1 (offices, conference rooms, locker rooms, storage and a break room) has been built, as well as a new fuel station that became operational in November. Phase 2 will replace the smoke-damaged fleet maintenance garage, and Phase 3 will build storage for vehicles like the snow plows and house the sign shop.

Construction will begin on a new fleet maintenance garage next year, but facilities to store vehicles and equipment have not been funded.

The Malinois Foundation in Sandy (9441 S. Union Square) has made it its mission to provide life-saving animals to veterans, survivors of domestic abuse, first responders and people with disabilities. The nonprofit was founded in 2013 and has matched more than 100 service dogs as companions.

The Malinois Foundation provides affordable service dogs to veterans, people with disabilities and survivors of trauma.

Working in health care has been harder than ever since the pandemic hit. But Alta View Hospital administrator Scott Roberson is feeling blessed and riding high since Alta View was ranked as the No. 1 Small Hospital in the Nation earlier this year.

Eight Utah hospitals are included in the top 100 objective hospital ranking, but Alta View in Sandy is No. 1.

En Pointe will present Nutcracker performances at Eastmont Middle School in Sandy, Dec. 1 and 2 at 6:00 p.m. and Dec. 3 at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

En Pointe Ballet will be performing their unique take on the beloved story of the Nutcracker in December.

Jordan High Theatre's production of "Once Upon A Mattress" will be performed at 7 p.m., Nov. 3-5 and again on Nov. 7.

Seventy Jordan High students will travel to Cedar City to compete in the annual Shakespearean competition and about the same number will take part in their school musical, “Once Upon a Mattress.”

Alta High alumna, and now Southern Utah University alumna, Lindsey Nelson has returned to the Hawk’s nest to team up with her high school theater teacher Linze Struiksma to help create and put into production a Shakespeare ensemble piece this fall.

Alta theater students will examine and showcase a piece that explores Shakespeare’s gender equality, then provide comedy with their fall musical, “The Addams Family.”

Canyons School District Kindergarteners had a chance to dress up as future professionals and share about their goals as part of the district’s annual college and career ready day.

At Alta View Elementary, kindergartners weren’t dressed up early for Halloween on Aug. 26, but rather to share their future careers.

Experts agree that water conversation will be an ongoing discussion as the state continues to struggle with drought. Sandy City officials shared conservation ideas and tools at the Sego Lily Garden Fall Fair in September.
