The tree is still glowing tonight, and the house feels quiet in a way it only does after Christmas. These last days of December always slow us down just enough to feel everything we’ve lived through.

As Patrick and I sat here, we weren’t just thinking about the people who are no longer with us. We were thinking about everything we’ve walked through together. The hard seasons, the good moments, the lessons, the memories that shaped us and the hope that there is still more ahead for our family.

So tonight, before we start contemplating putting Christmas away, we’re dedicating one last song to all of it. Memories by Maroon 5.

There’s a line in that song that stays with us every year:
“Toast to the ones here today.”

Because it’s not just about who we miss. It’s about honoring the journey we’re still on and the people who are still beside us.

May the memories that shaped us and the memories still waiting for us, carry gently into the new year.

Wishing everyone peace and comfort as we close out 2025.

One year ago today, we found ourselves in a moment we’ll never forget — loading in right in the heart of the city, surrounded by Christmas lights, holiday music drifting through the streets and the joyful rush of a season only days away. It was the Saturday before Christmas, and the whole world felt wrapped in warmth and anticipation.

And in the middle of it all…
you two were preparing to say I do.

This year, we’re learning to slow down in ways we haven’t allowed ourselves to in a long time.

We spend so much of our year encouraging couples and families to pause, breathe and hold on to the memories being made… and somewhere along the way, we forgot to give ourselves that same grace.

The holidays look different for us now.
Some moments feel tender.
Some memories ache a little.
And some parts of this season remind us of what’s missing more than what’s here.

But even in that softness… we’re still here.
