This Saturday! We are opening up ITZ Happenin! Studio at Grand Central Art Center (GCAC) during the monthly Santa Ana Art Walk. We are honored to be featuring Orange County artist Megumi Nakazawa.

Megumi is the founder of Faces of Mass Incarceration, a project in which she uses oil portraiture to humanize the stories of the formerly and currently incarcerated, system impacted, and survivors of trauma/crime. With the goal of painting 100 portraits, Megumi paints each person from life in a span of 2-3 hours. As she paints, the subjects are given the freedom to share their stories, which are documented in audio form, giving viewers the opportunity to see the humanity, beauty, and dignity in each individual.

The studio is located in the basement of GCAC and follow the signs to walk downstairs or take the elevator. While you're there, make sure to check out other exhibitions from amazing local artists and support Santa Ana's thriving art and culture community.

We are excited to be a part of this weekends 2025 Orange County Latino International Film Festival during Sunday's Shorts Block #4 titled "Stories without Borders" featuring short films from Southern California Latino directors and actors. Special shoutout to the organizers of the festival and Logan Crowe from and my compa Ruben Reyes for teaming up with me to bring these films to Santa Ana.

Tonight! Well be talking with Eduardo Iniestra aka Edifica aka DJ Kaboom!

Eduardo Iniestra is a multidisciplinary artist and uses the alias EDIFICA (Edify) as an Emcee. Edifica means to build. It also means to infuse feelings of kindness and virtue onto others. Edifica uses the microphone to tell his story as an undocumented Mexican/American working hard like much of the gente he represents through his music and his lyrics.

We'll talk to him about his musical career and how he uses art in variety of ways to inspire others to create art of their own. And well talk Edi about the recent 🧊 raids and how they are impacting undocumented folks in this moment and how its motivated him and others to talk about it.

Fernando Deveras is a Mexican-American son of immigrants, a father, a community organizer, and a certified educator based here in the city of Santa Ana ✊🏽🌹

Fernando’s page on IG .deveras is dedicated to providing political education in a way that is accessible and action oriented, tackling issues from the local to the international level.

We'll talk about the recent uprisings in Santa Ana in opposition to the ICE raids and last week's city council meeting that saw an organic surge of youth motivated to attend city council for the first time to speak up against the Mayor's dismissive online posts that falsely claimed the protests were purely violent and destroying businesses. And we'll talk about what Fernando is doing to try to educate and organize in this dark moment in American history. It will be a timely and important conversation, and we hope you can tune in. ITZ Happenin show was joined by incoming Harvard law student and Director of Santa Ana Youth (SAY) Vote. We talked about his deep involvement in local Santa Ana politics that started in 2020. We also talked at length about the issues affecting the youth of this country under the Trump administration, what he and SAY Vote did and are doing to empower young people to get civically engaged, and about the role that AOC and other young elected officials have had in inspiring youth to get involved and even run for office. It was great talking to Diego and we look forward to a future with more young people like him, fighting to make this world a better place!

ITZ Happenin show is back with another banger! This week, we will be joined by Diego Sarmiento.

Diego is an incoming law student at Harvard Law and is the Director of Santa Ana Youth (SAY) Vote and has been involved in local Santa Ana politics since 2020, helping his dad, Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento and other progressive electeds. We'll talk to him about the issues affecting the youth of this country and what he and SAY Vote are doing to empower young people to get civically engaged.

Join us for the ITZ Happenin! Studio Open House tomorrow at Grand Central Art Center. Yours truly (Joese Gloria) is honored to have chosen to be an artist-in-residence at Grand Central Art Center. I've been able to utilize a space there to film the ITZ Happenin! Show podcasts, and I also want to be able to support other local artists and content creators in pursuing their dreams.
Along with the Open House, we will also have an art exhibit with the amazingly talented Andres Rivera and his son Ezequiel (who is a chip off the old colombian block 👦 🎨) with over 30 different Art pieces from both of them. Well also have an area for kids to draw with chalk and play with some of the puppets we have.

Kid friendly event for all! Come be a part of the magic. ITZ Happenin! To the fullest! 2025 and beyond ✊🏽

We feel a great sense of duty to continue to uplift voices and conversations about the issues impacting Orange County residents and oppresssed people around the world. Tonight at 8 pm we will be posting our pre-recorded episode #212 where we interviewed folks from the OC Rapid Response Network

We spoke to Sandra and Casey about the recent uptick in deportations and what the rapid response network and other orgs are doing to protect and educate the vulnerable migrant communities under Trump 2.0
It was a great conversation and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we did.
