Founded in 2018, Night Shift Cookie Co. creates beautifully delicious treats for the people of SLO County. Owner Alexa Smith started making her delectable treats as a creative outlet, but it quickly grew into a business that offers custom, decorated cookies for birthdays, weddings, and everything in between. Night Shift Cookie Co. is located inside the market hall at the SLO Public Market.

Sunkissed Pantry is a zero waste refill shop located in downtown Santa Barbara, offering a wide variety of eco friendly goods for your home. They have 100+ bulk items to refill from including teas, spices, grains, self care products, and cleaning supplies. Sunkissed Pantry encourages people to bring in their own containers to refill, but they also have a selection of containers in store as well. Founder Kiersten was inspired to bring the ease of sustainable shopping to Santa Barbara after embarking on her own eco/health journey, and finding that sometimes it can be difficult to make the right choice when you don't have easy access to those items. She hopes to help the community make better everyday eco choices by educating others on the ease of refilling and going single use plastic free.

Our next members-only Coffee With Creatives Zoom call happens this Saturday 12/10 featuring Joanna from Bea Furnishings 🛋️

Joanna's family moved from Los Angeles to Solvang when she was 4 years old; she's proud to have grown up here in the 805. After graduating from SY High, she went to SBCC and discovered their associates program in interior design. She further completed her education receiving a BS in Interior Design from San Francisco State University.

Upon graduation, Joanna explored different trades and found herself at an upholstery shop. Without any knowledge of the trade, she was undoubtably fascinated by the word of upholstery. It was truly the beginning of her career.

Joanna quickly realized she had a serious undertaking of knowledge within the fundamental aspects of upholstery (like sewing, and different applications of upholstery). This lead her to move to High Point, NC where she enrolled in an upholstery certificate program at a technical community college. Later, she’d move to Brooklyn and Denver to further her experience in the trade.

Joanna moved back to Santa Barbara 5 years ago to begin what is now Bea Furnishings. Currently, she provides reupholstery and custom upholstery services. It’s Joanna's goal to create art via upholstery. She yearns to create gorgeous upholstered furniture that is bespoke and truly unique in its design and concept. Her goal is to revolutionize the way we see, understand, and value furniture by creating pieces that make people react and challenge their interpretations.

🌻 COMMUNITY UPDATE ✌🏽

For those of you that are new around here — hi, I’m Olivia 👋🏽 Founder of Creating 805.

I typically hop on here once a month to show my face, give a few fun facts, or talk about my current mindset. I’m using today’s intro to share a few changes you’ll be seeing around the Creating 805 community in 2023.

The biggest change — we’ve decided to take a break from our public speaker series. We’ll still have monthly in person gatherings in both SLO + SB Counties, and we’ll still have monthly (virtual) speaking events, they’ll just be open to our members.

This was a hard decision, but necessary. The reasoning behind it? Let me break it down:

Have you heard of the term “fail-fast”? Essentially, it’s recognizing the areas of business that aren’t working and immediately course correcting rather than continuing with a flawed process.

Our speaker series was by no means a failure, but in all honesty, I’m tired. These events, alongside our paid offerings, weren’t sustainable to put on monthly as a team of one. The direction I was headed towards was burnout, so I decided to “fail-fast.” After annual planning and looking at the year ahead, I recognized that focusing on our membership + community coaching program is what best supports Creating 805’s long term goals.
