Yes I know you’re not supposed to take Instagram photos in the bathroom. But I wanted you to see the color scheme I was about to put on blast for Easter. See, in my mind, the belt and the shoes were both brown, which is totally legit. But caught this and said, don’t you dare...those are two different shades of brown. So I changed my shoes haha.
I’m using a trifling silly example to express a bigger idea that I’m really thankful for these days—people in my corner who can share with me the hard stuff that I need to hear but am not ready to tell myself.
Brianna doesn’t just suggest what shoes to wear, she does the same thing with business ventures, finances, relational conflicts, presentation content, our kids, and future plans. She usually sees things that I don’t see, from a different angle, and with a different criteria in mind. Because we’ve made space for each other, her wisdom has made me a better and more present person to others, her, my family, church, clients...even myself. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my life when I’ve intentionally pursued people like this in business, relationship, work, parenting, self care, and spirituality. We all need a selective team of people who have our backs, and won’t just say “yes” all the time.
Wherever you are in life, one of the best things you can start building right now is a bullpen of trusted advisors. It can include, but doesn’t have to be a spouse. It just needs to be a truth teller who loves you and isn’t afraid to show you what you can’t see.
What if we all created an “advisory team” for our lives? How awesome would that be!
Who are the top three people you would put on your personal advisory team? Fill in these blanks for yourself:
