Celebrate the final night of the year with a table made for lingering. This New Year’s Eve recipe feature brings together surf, turf, and all the best reasons to gather—lobster, steak, shrimp, good wine, and even better company. Inspired by an intimate al fresco dinner by Chef John of Creative Services Catering, the menu is designed for effortless elegance, whether you’re hosting close friends or family.

From roasted rainbow potatoes kissed with rosemary, to perfectly grilled top sirloin finished with Savage Sassy Sauce, butter-poached lobster tails, and four-peppered shrimp, each dish balances bold flavor with simple technique. It’s the kind of meal that feels celebratory without being fussy—perfect for ringing in the new year at home.

The recipes come straight from Chef John’s kitchen at Bungalow 626, his historic Craftsman event space in downtown Santa Barbara, and reflect his passion for thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and memorable gatherings. A delicious way to toast the year past and welcome what’s next.

A celebration of style, confidence, and timeless glamour comes to life in this fashion feature shot in the heart of Santa Barbara. Styled with a bold, modern edge and a nod to vintage elegance, the looks spotlight statement gowns, rich textures, and standout accessories sourced from Renaissance Fine Consignment. From couture silhouettes and beaded cocktail dresses to leopard prints, velvet blazers, and iconic designer heels, each outfit tells a story of individuality and fearless personal style.

Shot on location at Joe’s Cafe and the Pickle Room, the editorial pairs classic Santa Barbara charm with high-fashion energy. Styling by Britainy McIntire brings together couture, vintage treasures, and contemporary pieces, proving that great style is both curated and expressive, and that consignment can be every bit as luxe as runway fashion.

Hunger touches more of Santa Barbara County than many realize, and the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County is meeting that reality with urgency, creativity, and deep community care. As federal food programs are reduced and economic pressures rise, the Food Bank now serves one in three county residents, including thousands of children and families navigating food insecurity.

In response to the sudden loss of federal food shipments and funding, the organization launched its Farm to Foodbank program, sourcing fresh produce from local farms while reinvesting dollars back into the community. Alongside countywide produce distributions, grocery rescue efforts, backyard gleaning, and children’s nutrition education, the Food Bank continues to expand its mission of moving the community from hunger into health.

Their impact goes beyond food. It’s about education, dignity, and building a stronger local food system. From monthly Foodbeats donations to hands-on volunteer opportunities and partnerships with local restaurants, there are many ways for the community to support this vital work. Every dollar donated multiplies into nourishment for neighbors in need, proving that collective action can create real change. Every $1 donated = $5 of food foodbanksbc.org

From learning port and starboard to leading one of Santa Barbara’s most impactful cultural institutions, Greg Gorga’s journey is a testament to the power of community, education, and curiosity. As executive director of the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, Greg has spent the past 18 years helping shape SBMM into an educational powerhouse, serving more than 5,000 youth annually through accessible, hands-on maritime programs.

As the museum celebrates its 25th anniversary, Greg reflects on a legacy defined by growth, resilience, and collaboration. Under his leadership, SBMM has weathered financial challenges, navigated the pandemic, earned national accreditation, and expanded its reach with programs that introduce students from all backgrounds to coastal science, environmental stewardship, and maritime careers. From tall ship experiences to innovative programs like Girls in Ocean Science and Whales are Superheroes!, SBMM continues to inspire the next generation while strengthening Santa Barbara’s connection to the sea.

Looking ahead, Greg credits the museum’s success to its dedicated staff, educators, volunteers, and supporters, all united by a shared belief in the value of learning through hands-on experiences. His story is a reminder that meaningful impact often begins with curiosity and grows through service.

Each holiday season, Lewis & Clark becomes one of Santa Barbara’s most magical destinations. Stepping inside feels like entering a twinkling European village, where every detail invites you to slow down and savor the beauty of the season.

Founded in 1981 by mother-and-daughter team Elizabeth and Lisa, Lewis & Clark has grown into a beloved local landmark. Still family-owned and now lovingly run by three generations, the shop is filled with ornaments, décor, and tabletop treasures that feel timeless, personal, and thoughtfully chosen. From hand-painted ornaments and glowing village scenes to elegant holiday table settings, every corner reflects a deep love for tradition and community.

More than a store, Lewis & Clark is a holiday tradition—one that holds memories, sparks wonder, and continues to bring joy to Santa Barbara year after year.

For photographer Tristin Tracy, Casa del Herrero is more than a historic estate—it’s home, history, and legacy woven together.

In this deeply personal story, Tristin shares how her grandfather tended the gardens for more than fifty years, how her family’s life unfolded on the property, and how her earliest memories—climbing trees, wandering pathways, watching light move across tile and arches—quietly shaped the artist she would become. Long before Casa del Herrero opened to the public, it was her childhood classroom, teaching her how to notice beauty, texture, and time.

Today, Tristin returns to the Casa as a professional photographer, capturing families, milestones, and moments in the same gardens that once held her own story. Each image becomes a bridge between generations—past, present, and future—preserving connection in a place that has held so many lives with care.

Casa del Herrero remains a living archive of memory, craftsmanship, and community, and through Tristin’s lens, its stories continue to grow.
