Golden light. Rolling fog. Quiet gratitude.
Santa Barbara has a way of grounding us if we’re willing to pause long enough to notice.

In her beautifully reflective piece, Anna Maria captures what so many of us feel living here: that this place is more than scenery. It’s a reminder to slow down, look up, and breathe.

From the Channel Islands floating offshore like silent guardians to the wildflower-covered ridgelines of Mt. Figueroa, our front yard and backyard offer a daily invitation to be present. These landscapes hold stories older than we are, and beauty that asks nothing from us except attention.

Santa Barbara gives freely:
Marine sanctuaries brimming with life
Chaparral scented with sage
Hills that whisper stillness
Spring blooms that hush you into awe

Anna Maria reminds us that gratitude doesn’t arrive loudly. It grows quietly, patiently, like poppies after rain or kelp forests swaying beneath the surface.

Today, take a moment for the mountains.
For the islands.
For the land that holds us.
And for the extraordinary gift of calling this place home.

Today, we pause in gratitude for the veterans in our Santa Barbara community and across the country.
Your courage, service, and sacrifice have shaped the freedoms we hold close.

To the families who stand beside you, we honor you as well.
Thank you for your strength and love.

“We are helping families rewrite their story.”

For 37 years, Storyteller has been a lifeline for Santa Barbara families in need. What began as a small play space in a parking lot is now three campuses providing safe, nurturing early childhood education for children six weeks to five years old.

Every moment, every classroom, every interaction is intentional—designed to break cycles of poverty and create long-term change. Staff aren’t just caregivers; they’re partners walking alongside parents, offering tools, support, and hope.

With childcare in Santa Barbara averaging $2,000/month, Storyteller’s year-round programming is only possible because of community support. Classroom sponsorships help provide books, healthy snacks, sensory materials, screenings, staff training—and most importantly—spaces where families feel valued and children feel safe to grow.

Storyteller is long beloved here. The nonprofit was honored as Nonprofit of the Year by the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce, and on February 21, 2026, it will host their annual Color the World Gala at the Rosewood Miramar.

When her mother, Angela Slater, passed in 2019, Leanne Schlinger McIntyre left behind her thriving business to honor her mom’s final wish: keep the family farm alive. Today, she runs Full Moon Farms, a 20-acre slice of Santa Ynez Valley heaven where life moves slower, the kids grow up close to the land, and everything—from the eggs to the watermelon—fuels the family and the animals who call it home.

“I can’t believe I get to raise my kids this way,” says McIntyre.

Follow along at fullmoonfarms.com or on Instagram for life on the ranch and updates on their upcoming sausage, bacon, and veggie sales.

As we enter this season of thankfulness, Publisher Melissa Pedrazzini-Jordano reflects on how service and gratitude are deeply intertwined and represented all through our November publication.

After attending the memorial service for Charlie Kirk, Melissa was reminded that a life of quiet generosity can leave the greatest legacy — that true impact often comes not from the spotlight, but from showing up for others and giving selflessly.

This month’s issue celebrates that same spirit — from Leanne Schlinger McIntyre’s leadership and philanthropy, to Kyle’s Kitchen’s mission of inclusion and compassion, to Storyteller’s decades of nurturing Santa Barbara’s most vulnerable children.

And as writer Anna Maria Stump reminds us, gratitude can also be found in the stillness of our surroundings — the fog horn in the morning, the mountains at dusk, the scent of sage in the air.

“This month, I carry with me the reminder that gratitude is both an attitude and an action.” — Melissa Pedrazzini-Jordano

Meet Eliza Hoar — the visionary behind Rosewood Miramar Beach’s dynamic new bar program.

As the resort’s first female Director of Bars, Hoar brings creativity, precision, and a deep respect for local ingredients to every pour. Since joining in May, she’s already reimagined five cocktail menus—including the signature spirits at Michelin-starred Caruso’s—and plans to refresh The Manor Bar Chronicles of Cocktails by January.

An ingredient-first mixologist, Hoar sources inspiration from within a 50-mile radius, transforming seasonal produce into vivid, artful drinks that celebrate California’s bounty.

From her early days in Maine to shaping award-winning bar programs in New York and Boston, Hoar continues to raise the standard for hospitality and innovation in Montecito.
