For decades, the traditional investment model has been a set-it-and-forget-it approach: keep 95% in a mix of stocks and bonds, 5% in cash, and let the “long term” work its magic.

That works fine for young investors adding new money during dips. But for retirees taking withdrawals, especially those with Required Minimum Distributions that must increase every year, no matter what your account does per the IRS, that same strategy can be lethal.

Former congressman Elton Gallegly, R-Simi Valley, and California Lutheran University announced Sept. 8 that they have resolved Gallegly’s 2021 breach of contract lawsuit against the school.

“Through open dialogue, the Gallegly’s and CLU have resolved their differences and are focused on the shared values that originally brought them together to create the University’s Elton and Janice Gallegly Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement,” the parties said in a press release.

Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies, the technology and defense conglomerate, announced Aug. 28 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the TransponderTech business from Saab AB. The acquisition includes a portfolio of connected commercial maritime products, including Automatic Identification System, VHF Data Exchange System, and Global Navigation Satellite System technologies.

The Colleges of Law in Santa Barbara and Ventura has a new dean.

Brandy Price, who served as interim dean for two months, has accepted the permanent dean position as well as the chief academic officer post.

Price’s appointment was announced on LinkedIn by the school’s president, Matthew Nehmer, last month and reported by the Business Times then.

A federal grand jury on Sept. 3 indicted a CSU Channel Islands professor who is charged with throwing a tear gas canister at federal immigration agents during a July 10 raid at Glass House Farms’ cannabis facility in Camarillo.

Jonathan Caravello, 37, of Ventura, is charged with one count of assault on a federal officer using a deadly or dangerous weapon.

Wedgewood Weddings/Hospitality Group is under a new private equity umbrella as TJC, formerly known as The Jordan Company, announced that it has closed the acquisition of Wedgewood.

Prospect Partners, a leading private equity firm investing in pre-middle market companies based in Illinois, first announced that it had sold its majority stake in Wedgewood TJC in June. Though exact numbers were not released, the sale was over $100 million and is considered one of the biggest sales of any non-hotel hospitality group.
