Learn the story of Jiayi Li - Special Recognition Winner in Asian American Stories 2025

"Echoes is a poetic exploration of diasporic immigration stories intertwined with the fading melodies of Cantonese Opera. Through first-person narration, the film reflects on personal memories, cultural inheritance, and the complexities of belonging. It captures the joys of tradition and the sorrow of its gradual loss, resonating with those who have carried their heritage across borders.

As voices and performances echo through time, the film contemplates what is given, what is preserved, and what is forgotten.

At its core, Echoes is a tribute to the gifts immigrants bring to America—stories, art, resilience—woven into the fabric of a changing world."

In her latest column, Gerrye Wong (Contributor, Ding Ding TV, Advisor, Asian American Stories Video Contest) on a tour of ABC7 Studio in San Francisco.

"When Silicon Valley Community Media presented its second annual gala fundraiser, titled Asian American Stories in May, a major component of the fundraising portion of the program was the Live Auction run by California Assemblyman Patrick Ahrens and Newswoman Dion Lim, MC.

One popular package eagerly fought over was one prize which included A PERSONAL TOUR OF ABC7 STUDIOS IN SAN FRANCISCO FOR 12 PERSONS FOLLOWED BY A SUMPTUOUS BANQUET HOSTED BY DION LIM and Silicon Valley Community Media. This popular celebrity prize was eagerly sought after by generous donors of the evening, but outbidding them all was enthusiastic Eva Jones."

Learn the story of Yi Ding- Excellence Award Winner in Asian American Stories 2025

""Yi Ding defines her gift to America as a daily practice of American hope—rooted not in individual success, as often emphasized by the American Dream, but in shared care.

The daughter of a single mother battling cancer and disabilities, Ding once believed the American Dream meant powering through adversity alone. But during the pandemic, as anti-Asian hate surged, she found a new definition of hope: one built through connection. Ding co-founded CHEER (Community for Holistic Education and Empowerment of Civic Responsibilities), a grassroots group turning neighborhood division into unity through service—community cleanups, tutoring, and donation drives.

In this video, Ding shares how co-creating care across differences can heal fear and build hope. What began with ice cream socials and health kits grew into a cross-cultural movement of immigrant families reclaiming belonging and civic purpose."

For her latest column, Gerrye Wong (Contributor, Ding Ding TV, Advisor, Asian American Stories) spoke to Yan Zhao (former Mayor of Saratoga and current Councilmember) who is running for the Santa Clara County Assessor.

Gerrye asked Yan why she is running for the position and she said: "I’m running for County Assessor because I believe it’s time for modernization, transparency and renewed public trust. This office plays a very crucial role in funding our schools, public safety and vital services, a fact most people don’t fully understand how it impacts their daily lives. When an office has been under the same leadership for over 30 years, sometimes the office becomes behind the times. I feel it’s time to bring 21st century innovation and integrity to this vital office for our Santa Clara County citizens.

It was with great sadness we learned last week that Hung Wei passed away. She was a Mayor of Cupertino and a Councilmember, dedicated Rotarian, community leader and, above all, a great friend. Hung dedicated her life to community and service.

After she was diagnosed with cancer last year, I sat with Hung in her kitchen and we spoke about life, death, community and service. Hung said: "I want people to remember me as a happy and energetic person." Our deepest condolences to Hung's family and loved ones. Hung will be missed by everyone whose life she touched. Watch Hung's interview.
