For 7 years, Miguel Tambriz Sohom has helped put produce on tables across the nation. The 24-year-old left Guatemala at the age of 17 to seek the American dream. He built a career working on farms here, became a husband, and eventually became a father to a 4-year-old girl.
The better future he was building for his family everyday was suddenly cut short this weekend on the streets of downtown Stockton. Miguel’s cousin, who was with him at the time of the deadly shooting, tells me it was an apparent robbery gone tragically wrong. Police are now searching for his killer.

Who else has wasted too much of their life in traffic on Eight Mile Road?
With the north side— and specifically Trinity Parkway— seeing a boom in development, traffic jams are only likely to get worse. Today, Stockton’s second Chick-fil-A location officially opened in Trinity Parkway. It’ll be followed by an In-N-Out and down the line, a hotel + convention center, another retail building and sit-down restaurant, and possibly even a Costco. All of that is happening as hundreds of more homes are being built and there’s still only two ways in and out. City leaders say they’re aware of the concerns and are now trying to find more money to help Eight Mile Road keep up.

On Monday, the Gann Fire sparked nearly Hogan Lake in Calaveras County and by Friday, work was still happening around the clock. Firefighters were still trying to get to the most remote areas touched by flames today, as crews worked to make the hard-hit Circle XX neighborhood safe enough for residents to return. A lot of progress has been made but tonight, on night 5, firefighters are still on the front lines and some evacuees still can’t go back home— if they even have a home to return to.
Here was my report today for with the latest on Day 5 of the Gann Fire.

The Gann Fire near Hogan Lake in Calaveras County has now turned deadly. Officials discovered the body of a woman inside her burned out home. Neighbors and friends told me today that her name was Sue and that she bred German shepherds. They say she had puppies that she didn’t want to leave behind in the fire.

As more than 1,600 crews battled the Gann Fire, a lot of people have been wondering where the air support is, how the fire started, whether it’s under control and more. Today I asked fire officials to find out.

More than 1,600 crews are still working around the clock as the fight to control the Gann Fire in Calaveras County went into a third day. Here’s a look inside today’s fire attack and the steep terrain making it so hard to douse the flames.

You’ve got to love the Calaveras County community! The Calaveras County community is stepping up to help neighbors in their time of need. All day, local residents and businesses showed up to the Gann Fire evacuation center in Valley Springs to offer donations and support. I was there as a local ice cream truck pulled up with free treats for evacuees and volunteers.

A Calaveras County official told me Tuesday morning that a lot of people who were asked to evacuate due to the Gann Fire just outside of Valley Springs/ Angels Camp chose not to leave. A lot of people during the day changed their minds, deciding to evacuate their livestock and leave their homes behind. Here’s how one of those livestock evacuations happened.
