For the past 30+ years, my career has been entrenched in media. TV and then podcasting is a language I learned to speak before I'd even stepped into adulthood. It didn't just put food on the table and give me creative purpose. In some ways, it became my identity.

So doubling down on The Grown-Ass Woman's Guide, launching The House Manual, and hosting workshops to help women turn home chaos into calm makes me feel like a beginner all over again.

Setting up a table at the local book festival felt unfamiliar (and a little overwhelming). It's like learning a new language.

Then I started having conversations with women. Like real, open, vulnerable conversations that confirmed I'm where I'm supposed to be.

Just like every other part of my career, whether I was producing media, running a parenting site, or creating content for large-scale events, it all came back to the same thing: connection, compassion, and the desire to make someone's life a little better.

It may be a new unfamiliar road, but I'm the same me. And it turns out you can teach an old broad new tricks.

Picture this: It's the Friday before Labor Day. My neighbor comes running over to tell me we have a flood in our house.

How does he know? The wall on the outside of the house was soaking wet. A pipe had burst in an upstairs bathroom.

We had to shut off the main water and I'm scrambling to find a plumber. And the person who deals with the house stuff isn't home. I have no idea what to do.

This is the sh*t nobody warns you about when it comes to running a home. It doesn’t ask if it’s a holiday weekend. It doesn’t care that you had plans to hit the beach. And it definitely doesn't care that your partner isn't home.

I know how heavy the mental load can be. I am definitely not looking to add to that. Quite the opposite. I'm saying that in just a few minutes at a time, you can learn some key facts about your home and get them down, so that you're not like me losing your mind.

That’s exactly why I made The House Manual. It’s there for you whenever chaos hits, because eventually, it will. And you'll be prepared like the grown-ass woman you are.

I spent 30 minutes this morning making follow-up appointments and scheduling screenings.

I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse, but we hit our out-of-pocket maximum for the year, so healthcare for the next four months is basically free. But even if that doesn't apply to you, there's a good chance your deductible resets January 1.

Make one call every morning before the day gets started, or set aside an hour this week to get it done. Your grown-ass future self will thank you very, very much.

3 1/2 weeks ago I fractured my ribs. The doctor strongly recommended I stop working out for 6 to 8 weeks. 😑

I was feeling beyond discouraged. My workouts have become my lifeline over the past 19 months. Not only do I feel physically better, but it’s helped with my anxiety and ADHD. 🤪

Combine doctor’s orders with 100+ degree temps, my exercise has consisted of a couple of walks. Period.

My physical strength and mental health have felt it.

So today I went for a walk and did the steps at our local park - 172 in total.

There’s a version of me who would’ve said screw the doctor and kept going to the gym, or expected to scale at least 10 flights today.

Or gone the other way completely and used the injury as an excuse to stop trying completely, losing everything I’ve built over the past year plus.

But being grown-ass is a practice. It’s giving ourselves grace when we need it, without giving up entirely, and being honest enough to catch it when we’re making excuses instead.

All or nothing was never the way. And my grown-ass self knows that now.

Being in the room with these ladies last night made my heart happy. They didn't just come out to support the launch of The House Manual, they made an impact with their generous donations to The Domestic Violence program at Child & Family Center

Thank you, Nikki, for opening up your home. Hillary Broadwater for the amazing book cover, Lauryn + Tara for your incredible help and to the absolutely generous businesses who graciously donated to the raffle.

"It's like finding advocacy for your future self."

That comment from Lisa Steadman is everything.

What choice will you make today in the moment will also advocate for that woman 10 or 20 years from now?

Hey, welcome to all the newbies up in here. I'm Jackie, and my life's mission is to support grown-ass women in handling their sh*t.

I spent 20+ years in TV before moving into podcasting. Now I run this whole grown-ass operation: podcast, free resources, group support, and a community of women who are done pretending we've got it all together.

I'm a goofball by nature, but also an Aries & Enneagram 8 so I'm not afraid of facing a challenge head on. As someone with ADHD and three adult kids, I've learned to create the tools I actually need to function, then hand them off to you so you don't have to start from scratch (see: The House Manual). And if you're drowning in self doubt, I'll be the one cheering you on and reminding you who the f*ck you are.

Here you'll find me talking honestly about running a home, managing money, taking care of our health, and figuring out the parts of being a grown-ass woman nobody actually teaches us.

Follow along. This is where the baby steps turn into real change.
