As we round the corner on Summer I think it's time we talked about Joshua Tree Music Festival in October. This is honestly my favorite festival. It's small enough that it's intimate but large enough that the production is top-tier.
For some time now I've had the honor of rocking the last set of the evening before the late night kicks in. Sometimes on Sat night this time on Friday. When I imagine myself on stage I am right there at the "Boogaloo" in Joshua Tree. It's a ripe playground where I can fully express myself musically.
Big bass on an incredible sound system run by a wicked sound engineer. It's kinda all I want for Christmas tbh. To play my beats and let my heart soar with the crowd is a magical event every time. Especially when the sound is superior. There's just things that I do on big systems in settings like that that I don't do elsewhere.
The thing is that the crowd is already primed from a whole day of killer acts and community. So when they get to me they are ready to go on a journey. And thats what I take them on.
As I craft my set in the back of my mind I'm thinking about how to fill that particular space with sonic textures and rhythms and melody. Not just beats but pauses, dips and dives, soaring highs. I want my set to be more than a 4x4 romp for two hours. Even I get bored of that!
So anyway, if you want to come to an extremely well done music event and get to see me do my thing then come on down to J-Tree in October. I'd love to dance with you.
It's worth it and I can't wait to get on the decks.
Oh my gosh and how could I forget that a DJ legend, Donald Glaude is gracing the decks on Sat night?!
Peace y'all. Hope you can join me.
