πŸ›οΈβœ¨ Did you know that when Ohrbach’s opened at the La Mirada Shopping Center on November 3, 1962, it was the chain's first venture into the suburbs?
Spanning 100,000 square feet, this location brought 'high fashion at low prices' right to our neighborhood before it was eventually converted during the mall's enclosure in the mid-70s.
Founded in 1923 by Nathan Ohrbach, this legendary retailer brought high fashion to the masses with its "business in millions, profit in pennies" philosophy before shutting down entirely in 1987.
It was known for selling fabulous designer copies at friendly prices and was the place to shop in NYC and Los Angeles, particularly the iconic Miracle Mile location (now the Petersen Museum); a destination for budget-savvy fashionistas and Hollywood stars alike.
The La Mirada location, dear to our hearts, would eventually become one of the largest Toys R US locations in SoCal and today is a UFC Gym (its largest).

πŸ•ŠοΈ End of an Era in La Mirada.

The historic headquarters at 15700 Imperial Highway β€” long home to the Far East Broadcasting Company β€” has been demolished.

For decades, this building served as the global nerve center of an international Christian radio ministry broadcasting in more than 150 languages across 50+ countries.

Why was it demolished?
What’s replacing it?
And how did this La Mirada site become a hub of postwar missionary innovation?
