The Killing 5/19/1956. This classic film noir stars Sterling Hayden as Johnny Clay, an ex con planning a caper: robbing a horse track of 2 million bucks. Stanley Kubrick's third feature is incredible: a tight, well paced story, great camera work, and a rock solid cast, with Marie Windsor a stand out as one of the great femme fatales of all time. This picture impacted every crime movie that followed, and holds up today. I'm pairing it with Red Sea of Cacao, from . 🍻

Satyr, from . Fruity, flowery, and bready on the nose. Bright and crackling on the palate, with that breadiness continuing, this light, easy drinker finishes very, very dry. It would be a great pairing with food, and with today's B-Movie, Kiss Me Deadly, 5/18/1955. 🍻

Kiss Me Deadly, 5/18/1955. This is my favorite portrayal of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer Ralph Meeker is amazing, snarling, sarcastic, nihilistic, as Spillane barrels through Los Angeles searching for the great whatsit and being rude to pretty much everyone. It's pretty close to cinematic perfection. I'm pairing it with Satyr, from . 🍻

Gooey Valves, a collaboration from and . These two breweries came together and created a barleywine using scads of Muscovado, Turbinado, and brown. Then they aged it in McKenna and Elijah Craig bourbon barrels. The reault is a thick, chewy, viscous beer with lots of brown sugar, cognac, raisin, and a hefty dose of bourbon. Something to pour at the end of the day, put your feet up, and take it easy. And to pair with today's B-Movie, Witchfinder General, 5/17/1968. 🍻

Dino Break, from . This Imperial IPA uses Simcoe, Amarillo and Centennial hops. Aggressive in flavor, it drops oodles of pine and citrus, especially the freshest of orange. From the moment you open the can, it's coming out swinging. A delightful drinking experience, and great pairing with today's B-Movie, Enter the Ninja, 5/16/1981. 🍻

Enter the Ninja, 5/16/1981. Franco Nero is Cole, a white dude trained in the arts of the ninja (trained is very loosely applied here). He shows up to help his friends defend their farm from some really bad folks. This kicked off the 80s ninja craze, and also introduced the audience to martial arts legend Sho Kosugi. Don't let the fact Nero has zero martial arts skill stop you from enjoying this one. I'm pairing it with Dino Break, from . 🍻

Barrel Aged There is No Dana, from . An Imperial Stout aged two years in Buzzard Roost barrels, then conditioned on Cacao Nibs, Marshmallow, and Peanut Butter. Thick. Thick and chewy, with heady roast from the peanut butter, sweetness from the cacao and marshmallow, then deep barrel. This beer is such a good time. Seek it out, share with friends, and pair it with today's B-Movie, The Gate, 5/15/1987. 🍻

The Gate, 5/15/1987. Parents leave their two kids alone for a few days, and during this time the elder daughter has a party. Normal stuff. Meanwhile, her younger brother and his friend accidentally open a gate that releases a bunch of demons, and potebtially the Old Gods. This falls under Lovecraftian, in my book, and was a childhood favorite. Cool practical effects raise this one above other horror pictures of the era. Unikator Doppelbock, from . A solid Doppelbock at 7.5%, this delightful beer layers flavors of caramel and bread, with sweet malt, and a smooth, velvety texture on the palate. Doppelbocks are my kinda party, and Wild Fields knows what they're doing. I'm pairing it with today's B-Movie, Spookies, 5/14/1986. 🍻
