We had a great time at the AICP’s Women’s Forum last week. The guest speaker, Jenna Jolovitz, shared this important message with us that we thought we’d share:

We all do improv, every day.

Improv is about creating, listening, and building on someone’s someone else’s idea that takes the scene, situation, or idea to a new level.

The goal isn’t necessarily to be funny, but when it works, it can be hilarious.

Ignore the voice that says you shouldn’t and have the courage to speak up. It will be fine. Sometimes it will be GREAT. And sometimes it will lead you to an idea you never envisioned.

Improv can be as simple as looking at someone and clapping together — or as nuanced as a story shared with specificity, context, and intent.

When you improv you create opportunity for yourself and a safe space for others.
