We want to take a moment to introduce the first of our two distinguished award recipients for the 2025 Apollo Awards - David Hirshland!

David Hirshland began his career as a music publisher in 1995 for Bug Music, initially as its VP of Business & Legal Affairs, later as Executive VP and in 2006 as President. When BMG purchased Bug in 2011 David served as Executive VP of Client Services and Catalog. In these roles David was instrumental in the growth of both companies, overseeing the catalogs of such icons as Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, Woody Guthrie, Wiillie Dixon and Iggy Pop as well as contemporary artists Wilco, The National, Ryan Adams and Richard Thompson among many others. In 2015 David engineered the purchase of the Buddy Holly catalog as well as the name image and likeness rights of that notable architect of rock and roll and currently serves as Executive Producer of the upcoming Buddy biopic That'll Be the Day. Prior to his stint as a publisher David was an attorney in the entertainment law firm of Rosenfeld, Meyer and Susman after obtaining his law degree at UCLA. He is also proud of having served as President of the California Copyright Conference and Association of Independent Music Publishers.
