This multi-generation collective of world-class musicians – hand-picked by and Sukanya Shankar – was formed in dedication to the masterful compositions and enduring legacy of the creative luminary, sitarist Ravi Shankar whose innovative artistry brought Indian classical music to the world.

Philip Glass and Michael Nyman will be celebrated with Lifetime Achievement Awards during Film Fest Gent’s Minimalism in Motion concert, closing the 25th World Soundtrack Awards.

Glass was initially renowned for his work for opera and his symphonies, but he has made an equally impressive contribution to film music, with a rich oeuvre of film scores that include Koyaanisqatsi, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, The Truman Show, Kundun, The Hours and Notes on a Scandal.

With a distinguished career as a composer, librettist, critic, and musicologist, Nyman is best known to film audiences for his unforgettable scores for The Piano, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, and Gattaca.

It’s the year of ! Bertelmann is up for TWO in the Best Film Composer and Best Television Composer categories.

Volker Bertelmann is an internationally acclaimed pianist, composer, and experimental musician. In 2023, he was honoured with an Academy Award and a BAFTA in the Best Score category for his work on All Quiet on the Western Front (directed by Edward Berger).

Bertelmann’s latest projects are A House of Dynamite (directed by Kathryn Bigelow), Ballad of a Small Player (dir. Edward Berger), The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde (dir. Kenneth Branagh), Panic Carefully (dir. Sam Esmail), and The Dead of Winter (dir. Brian Kirk).

Most recently, he received his first Primetime Emmy nomination in the Original Main Title Theme Music category for his work on the main title theme for HBO’s Dune: Prophecy.

"You don’t get the feeling that Minnie Riperton and her collaborators ever asked themselves, 'Is this a bit much?' And although 'Les Fleurs' starts slow, with floaty guitar and gorgeous hippy‑dippy lyrics written from the point of view of a flower — very 1970, which is when it came out — by the time we reach the chorus there are swelling strings, horns, a choir and Riperton’s unearthly, octave‑busting voice hitting notes somewhere above the Kármán line. It’s ecstatic and overripe and bizarrely it didn’t chart when it was released as a single, so it still feels a bit like a secret, despite being used as the soundtrack to all manner of jubilant moments in TV and film." -- Horatia Harrod Financial Times
