I’ve made MANY MANY carrot cakes but this one for is the easiest one. No grating carrots & you basically chuck most of it in the blender.

For the weeknight - a shrimp & bean stew that’s is comfy, straight forward and one that will make it into your weekly rotation.

I’m so proud of the recipes in AfriCali & truly feel overwhelmed by every person who has come to my cookbook pop-up restaurant

I’ve never worked in restaurants before .la but it was my biggest dream when I was younger. I would print menus that I designed on word art for my family. Put on an apron to take their drink orders and all. As I got older I thought my dreams were too big, so I changed them. Somehow I my cookbook journey brought me back to it, serving dishes adapted from AfriCali in a bustling market in LA

For the first time ever, I’m bringing Jikoni to life as a full-on dining experience. Join me at starting Thursday, April 17, for 4 weekends of AfriCali small plates—small chops, choma (grilled) plates, and rotation of my signature desserts!

We’re talking suya spice, chili lemon butter drenched chicken & chips, shrimp jollof arancini, Swahili style biriyani... and not too sweet desserts you won’t want to share.

This menu is inspired by my Kenyan/Nigerian heritage, my home kitchen, and my cookbook (AfriCali), and I cannot wait to finally cook for you IRL.

This is the HARISSA CHILI from my cookbook AfriCali but with lamb instead of beef with a cheesy twice baked potato.

🌶️ Toppings are labneh (thick yogurt), Calabrian chilis & parsley

Hosting this event in Kenya is deeply meaningful—it’s a homecoming, a celebration of the flavors and stories that shaped this book, and an opportunity to bring the movement for everyday African food full circle.

Woke up to a buzzing phone with the news that AfriCali made the NEW YORK TIMES!!!!

This book was my way to show that African food is EVERYDAY food. For your weeknights & celebrations - that’s why it’s always been at the heart of my California kitchen 🧡
