I am so saddened by the passing of Robbie Robertson. Songs and sounds that are so etched into my psyche. So influential to so many of the groups and musicians we hear now.
Their music is timeless.
I got to tour with The Band (minus Robbie - with Jim Weider on guitar.) I was transfixed by those songs every single night. I was working with Stills when Richard offed himself (they were together that night in Winter Park, Fl.) Rick Danko slept at my house (Shelly Ladd’s) in North Hollywood.
Robbie was at a Michael on Fire gig in Santa Monica in ‘91. I went over and said hi, and he told me he was only there for one drink, and was gonna leave right after that. I told the band to start right away, and he ended up staying for hours.
I love The Band, and am so, so sad to say goodbye to Robbie Robertson.
