Slaughter goat prices continued to see robust momentum in late May, driven by strong ethnic holiday demand and tight inventories. Prices are averaging roughly $ 3.50 to $ 4.00 per pound on a live weight basis, with premium lightweight kids occasionally topping $ 4.50 per pound.

Regional Highlights (May 22–May 29, 2026)

Texas
The Lone Star State remains the epicenter of the American goat market, with the Producers Livestock Auction in San Angelo setting the regional benchmark.
β€’ Slaughter Kids: Kid goats showed tremendous strength, selling up $ 30 to $ 40 per hundredweight (cwt) higher, trading mostly from $ 3.54 to $ 4.05 /𝑙𝑏 and reaching highs of $ 4.60 /𝑙𝑏 for light-to-mid weights.
β€’ Slaughter Nannies & Billies: Slaughter does (nannies) held firm, trading between $ 1.20 and $ 2.20 /𝑙𝑏 (averaging $ 1.68 to $ 1.78 /𝑙𝑏), while billies maintained solid footing at $ 2.00 to $ 2.70 /𝑙𝑏.

The South & Southeast (Mississippi/Tennessee)
β€’ Auction receipts remained heavy across the mid-South. Despite large seasonal runs, buyer demand remained moderate to good.
β€’ Mid-weight slaughter kids (50–75 lbs) brought averages of $ 300 to $ 330 /𝑐𝑀𝑑. Slaughter does traded mostly between $ 190 and $ 200 /𝑐𝑀𝑑 depending on weight and flesh conditions.

Midwest & Central Plains
β€’ Auction barns across the Midwest (e.g., Kalona, Iowa, and Missouri markets) reported strong competition.
β€’ Lighter Selection 1 and 2 kids (40–80 lbs) actively traded in the $ 315 to $ 355 /𝑐𝑀𝑑 range. Buyers at these auctions continue to show a strong preference for high-yielding 50–60 lb kids, which command a noticeable premium over heavier lots.

🚨 BREAKING: Texas wildlife officials are warning residents about a growing invasive animal problem spreading across huge parts of the state… and no, it’s not coyotes screaming outside somebody’s ranch house at 2 AM or another armadillo playing dead in the middle of a county road. πŸ—πŸŒ΅πŸ’€
Wild feral hog populations are becoming a massive problem across rural Texas, especially near ranchland, river bottoms, mesquite thickets, pine forests, farmland, and isolated backroads where these animals can move for miles completely unnoticed. 😳
And these things are NOT just β€œwild pigs.”
We’re talking:
β€’ 300+ pound feral hogs
β€’ razor-sharp tusks
β€’ terrifying speed for something built like a refrigerator
β€’ aggressive behavior when cornered
β€’ and enough strength to destroy crops, fences, feeders, and entire fields overnight. πŸ’€
Texas wildlife officials say the destruction happens FAST.
Pastures ripped apart. Water troughs destroyed. Mud everywhere. Hay fields shredded. Fences bent sideways. Entire sections of ranchland looking like somebody dragged a plow through them at 3 AM. 😭
Meanwhile Texans are reporting:
β€’ massive tracks crossing muddy creek beds
β€’ loud crashing sounds moving through brush after dark
β€’ and trail cameras capturing giant hogs wandering across Texas property lines like they pay taxes there. πŸ—πŸŒ΅
And somewhere in Texas right now:
β€’ a deer feeder just got absolutely annihilated overnight
β€’ somebody walked outside expecting whitetails and instead locked eyes with a tusked tank standing beside the fence line
β€’ and one rancher is currently staring into the darkness whispering: β€œThat definitely ain’t a deer.” πŸ’€
The scariest part?
These animals reproduce FAST.
A small population can explode before landowners even realize how many are out there, which is why Texas wildlife agencies are urging residents to report sightings immediately before populations spread even further across the state.
Officials continue warning Texans:
β€’ do NOT approach them
β€’ do NOT feed them
β€’ and absolutely do NOT underestimate how dangerous they can be.
Because Texas was built for cattle, whitetails, longhorns, and wide-open ranchland…
not armored lawnmowers with tusks sprinting through the brush at 30 mph. πŸ—πŸŒ΅πŸ’€
