Support staff post 2!

Human support.

Our oldest. Peanut is a lover of all baby animals, all things fluffy, feathered, slimy, slithery and squauky! She can’t remember her original hair color or even what color it was a month ago! Shes fun and adventurous and a woman of many talents, including but not limited to, catching frogs, discus throwing, shot put, bass clarinet and her most recent adventure- trying not to crash dirt bikes!!

Who are the FK Adirondack Homestead support crew you ask?

This weekend, we will post a series of posts introducing our support staff…. Aka- our family and our pets!

I’ll start with one of our favorites…

Tyson is our deaf and partially blind 19+ year old Tuxedo kitty. We chose to post him first because he most likely won’t be with us much longer. He is having some health issues that are sending us signals letting us know the end is near.

He has lived with Mama since he was 5 weeks old. He’s lived almost everywhere she has. He has been there for every mile stone from turning 21 to engagement to marriage, kids, and moving multiple times. He has mentored 6 other family kitties, befriended multiple dogs. He was there for her and the kids when their lives were flipped upside down with the passing of her kids father, and another two moves within a year after that. (One of which was to our beautiful home now.) Today, He is loved by everyone, although in his younger days he was selective with his people and known to let you know if you weren’t in his inner circle.

He’s not a mouse catcher, but he is a mouse hider! He will lay on top of rodents and let them hide in his fluff. He loves our chickens and will watch the babies, and lay on them as well. (To think he was so unruly and mean as his younger self!)

We’re cherishing our days left with him and pray he passes comfortably at home.

Hope you’re having a Sunshine Day like my sweet LO girl, “Pige.” I have 2 Lavender Orpington ladies, Pigeon and Luna. I can tell them apart by their color. Pige is lighter grey, and her comb is redder. Luna is darker and her comb isn’t quite as red.

Money is great, but it’s not all you need to feed your soul… we feed ours with fresh produce, the feeling of grass between our toes, the sounds of rain and crackling fires, ducks quacking, making new friends (like the toads and chipmunks) and listening for hummingbird chirps. We feed ours with the smell of fresh bread and pies, hot breakfast and coffee brewing… we also feed our souls with the smell of purple and the sounds of mud flinging, big blocks, dirt bikes, 4wheelers and big tires.

Pumpkin spice coffee. A slight “fall is coming” morning chill here in northern New York. My ducks quacking away in their freshly filled pool, and my chickens wandering around like they own the place…

Mr. Kilton’s birthday is TUESDAY and I want to make him something special… I best get to it! He does so much for us, and he never asks for anything in return.

Maybe the chickens have ideas…

I now have two layers in my spring 26 babies… I found this beautiful, bitty, olive egg from either Alejandra or Hershey yesterday! I expect most of my girls to be laying over the next couple weeks. My three Brahma ladies I don’t expect until mid to late fall. Once everyone starts, I should be getting 10-11 eggs daily!
