A new middle eastern restaurant is coming to the North Trail of Sarasota, FL.

Olive Eats plans to open in the former Fork & Hen space.
The restaurant's kitchen is headed up by Chef Emad Al-Masri, who recently owned Tahini Beach Café on Anna Maria Island. The menu features a number of traditional dishes, such as Baba Ganoush, Falafel, Tabbouleh, Hummus, Shakshuka, and many more.

Indoor and outside tables are available. Food is available for takeout and the restaurant will offer catering.
Planned hours are Tuesday - Sunday 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM.

A new St. Armands Circle restaurant has quietly opened.

has opened on their Caribbean American restaurant. Flambo Island Cuisine offers a brunch and dinner menu featuring Trinidadian food the father and son team behind the restaurant perfected in their Philadelpha Flambo Restaurant.
The menu includes a number of jerk spiced foods, as well as tastes of the island that has influences of Indian as well as traditional Caribbean flavors.
Currently the restaurant is open 4 - 9 for dinner service and will eventually expand to full hours of Brunch 9 - 2 and dinner 4 - 10. A full bar is coming soon, as well as regular monthly events, such as a welcome party in January.

Your last chance to dine at a decades long Palm Avenue restaurant is coming up this month.
Caragiulos Italian-American Restaurant has announced they will close their downtown Sarasota, FL restaurant ahead of a planned move to a nearby new building in January. The Sarasota staple will close October 26 after 37 years in the historic Mira Mar building.
The new building is almost complete on Ringling Blvd. between Links and Osprey.
Congratulations to the Caragiulo family and staff on what will likely be the beginning of at least another 4 decades in downtown Sarasota.

The new sign has gone up on the future Seventeen Asian restaurant. The interior is currently under renovation. There doesn't appear to be much progress on the interior changes since earlier this summer. As we reported in July, from a filing with Sarasota County, "The scope of work includes the replacement of existing furniture with new chairs, sofas, and tables to improve both style and usability. Additionally, the flooring throughout the interior will be updated to new, high-quality materials. The project also includes repainting all interior walls with fresh, modern colors to revitalize the environment. To complete the transformation, some of existing light fixtures will be replaced with updated, energy-efficient models that provide improved illumination and a contemporary look." The application to the County for a Business Use Permit calls for 180 seats.
According to the Florida Division of Corporations, one of the owners listed for the parent corporation of Seventeen also owns a pair of upscale Chinese restaurants in Orlando and Winter Park, FL. There is no application with the State of Florida DBPR on file in the public database for a restaurant or alcohol license for that address or the parent corporation name.

Thank you to everyone who follows this page. Meta & Facebook have recently made it difficult to gain new followers by trying to force pages to pay to make sure even established followers see new posts. Liking, sharing and commenting on posts (not necessarily this post) certainly helps get the word out on our restaurant news posts.
Also, thanks to all of those who have shared tips by messenger. With no staff or paid employees, like other local TV, magazines and newspapers, you can imagine it's a bit of an effort to keep up with what's going on in the Sarasota restaurant scene.

Congratulations to Nikki’s Greek Cafe that opens today for the first time in Gulf Gate. They have posted the menu on their page. They have an opening special on the chalk board of a gyro and fries for $10.95 (usually $13.99 on the menu). Nikki's is in the former Tortellino Bistro space. Beer & wine is available. There is a kid's menu, too.
They're open Tuesday - Sat at 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM and 'til 10 Friday & Saturday.

The owners of a couple of Venice, FL sub shops are branching into a new wings franchise.

The former Burger King / Hot Dog Shoppe location on the Bypass will become Florida's first location of Wings Etc. The wings and sports bar chain has most of their locations in Indiana and Ohio. It has recently expanded into Texas and West Virginia. The same people who own the two Obee's Soup & Subs locations in Venice are remodeling the former hot dog restaurant to become a Wings Etc. sports bar restaurant.

In addition to wings, according to menus online, the sports bar offers burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, shrimp, fish sandwiches, and more. A kids menu is also available.

A new sushi restaurant has opened in the University Town Center Sarasota area.

, which does not have a page, is in their preview phase and is only available by reservation. The restaurant will have their soft opening next week. Zoto is from James Beard-nominated restaurateurs Jimmy & Johnny Tung, It is an upscale Izakaya concept serving premium sushi, shareable plates, sake and Japanese-inspired cocktails in a sleek, intimate setting. The menu is led by talent from Michelin-starred Kösen in Tampa.
Yūgen - a hidden omakase room inside Zoto, for an exclusive chef's table experience, is planning to open later.
Zoto has taken over the former Bento space.

A Sarasota pizza restaurant will be opening a new location in Venice.

UPDATE: The page of Abondanza Italian Deli earlier today announced they are closing. The owners now say their page was hacked. (See their reply below.) The post this morning had said, "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Abondanza Italian Deli, We will be Closing as of Oct. 6th. This was not an easy decision to make."

As they celebrate their 9th anniversary on Hillview Street, Origin Craft Beer & Pizza Café is expanding to a new location on the Venice Bypass. Rami Nehem tells us they are taking over the former Crave Hot Dog & BBQ spot in the Jacaranda Plaza. According to Rami, the popular pizza & wing spot will offer indoor and outside dining and a full bar. Opening should be by early January. Origin will join a number of other restaurants in the plaza, such as Norma Jean's, First Watch, Poke Hub, Parlor Donuts, Crisp & Green, Jersey Mike's, Pineapple Tequila, and Five Guys. This will be the 6th Origin location, plus their semi-permanent food truck location at Big Top on Cattlemen. Congratulations, Rami, on the anniversary and the new location.

ICYMI: The food court has reopened at Costco at Sarasota Square. The warehouse club has been expanded and moved the $1.50 hot dog & soda combo and a new sausage and pepperoni calzone for $6.99 and a big cookie for $2.49 inside the store. Ordering and access to the cheap eats now requires a membership or a gift card. Previously, it was in a lobby outside the store entrance.

Also, as we previously reported, CAVA and Chipotle Mexican Grill are coming to Sarasota Square. We're awaiting word on additional restaurants planned for the new shopping district. Stay tuned.

The smell of vanilla in ice cream cones has returned to St. Armands Circle.

Kilwins Sarasota - St. Armands Circle has reopened. The ice cream and candy shop had been shuttered for a year, following last year's back to back hurricanes, that closed many businesses on St. Armands Key.

Kilwin's is open daily at noon.

Happy National Poke Day and a new poké restaurant coming to Palmer Ranch.

According to paperwork filed with Florida DBPR a new poke restaurant called Okie Poke is coming to the Plaza at Palmer Ranch in Sarasota, FL. So far, there aren't any permits on file with Sarasota County for the former Subway shop next to Mr. Wok in the shopping center anchored by Publix and Target.
