A new restaurant from some industry veterans plans to open later this month.

83 Tavern will replace the recently closed Neat SRQ in Square South. According to corporate records, the new restaurant will be headed up by former Libby's owners Joe Seidensticker and Joe Guli of Tableseide Restaurant Group.
No menu details have been provided yet as the restaurant advertises for staff. September 29, 2025 is their planned opening date.

A new menu on Siesta Key includes a lot of seafood.
While it hasn't been thought of as a restaurant since the previous owner took out the kitchen, the current owners of the Beach Club are looking to change that. Oysters, lobster bisque, steamed seafood, chicken wings and more mark their attemt to draw family dining during the daytime. All smoking on the property has been eliminated. The pool tables are gone in favor of more dining tables. Right now, the prep is done at their kitchen across the street that serves The Cottage and The Hub Baja Grill. Steamers and an oven for wings are behind the bar. The kitchen is open until 9:00 and tables are removed to open up the dance floor.

A new poke bowl restaurant coming to Siesta Key.

According to preliminary alcohol zoning approval applications with Sarasota County, the former Sub Zero location will become a new restaurant called "Mr. Poke." It does not appear to be part of a chain or franchise. This would be the second poke restaurant in Siesta Village following the opening of Siesta Poké last year.

No application has yet been filed for a restaurant permit from Florida DBPR.
The location is just down the block from Village Cafe adjacent to the public parking lot.
We'll post more details as we receive any information.

A correction to our previous post. The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill project is back in the planning stages. However, the Mediterranean restaurant will only be occupying half of the previously planned Banditos Tacos & Tequila space. The right side of the cancelled Tavern on Main Brewery is going to become a men's clothing store as part of the adjacent Lotus women's clothing shop. The east 2,500 square foot space will be developed separately as the Greek restaurant.

A new Asian restaurant is opening tomorrow (Tuesday) in Sarasota, FL.

Victoria's Hong Kong Cafe will replace the recently closed Kyuramen restaurant. While the restaurant will normally be closed on Tuesdays in the future, they tell us they are doing a soft opening and begin their regular Wednesday through Monday hours following their premier. This restaurant is a rebrand and has the same ownership as the just closed ramen spot. Very little has changed in the interior of the restaurant.

As we reported back in February, Florida's first new Tim Hortons is planned for SR 64 in Bradenton, FL. The Canadian coffee shop has now filed for a Florida DBPR restaurant license plan review for the 1,600 sq. ft. planned building. A building permit was previously approved for the Heritage Harbour development by Manatee County. (Building photo is a Google Maps photo from Ohio.)

Still no details from Tim Hortons on an opening date and their website still doesn't list any locations in Florida.
Another location to be built is reportedly on US 301 in Ellenton. The company had pulled out of Florida in the early 1990's.

A new dessert shop to satisfy late night sweet cravings is coming to Gulf Gate.

According to a building permit application under Plan Review, Insomnia Cookies will be taking over a former sewing shop spot on Gulf Gate Drive. The cookie chain opened their 300th location last year. The current nearest location to Sarasota, FL is Tampa or Ft. Myers. Besides cookies, Insomnia offers other desserts such as ice cream in a cup ($6.25), pint ($12.75), cookie sandwich ($8.19 - $12.99) or over a brownie ($9.29). Insomnia Cookie stores are open until 3:00 AM.

We're awaiting details from an Insomnia Cookies spokesperson on a timeline for opening. According to the permit application with Sarasota County, the estimated construction cost to renovate the 1,500 sq ft space is a little more than $220,000.

ICYMI: Gentile Philly Cheesteaks is closed and a new owner plans to open in October.

Johnny Longhots and Steaks Sarasota, FL, owned by the long-time meat supplier for Gentile's restaurant, is in the process of doing some remodeling of the long-time Sarasota cheesesteak restaurant. As part of the process, they plan to install a larger grill and exhaust hood to accommodate the expanded menu. While Gentile's only offered cheesesteaks and fries, the new restaurant will, in addition to the cheesesteaks, offer their famous stuffed "longhots" peppers, chicken cutlets, pork roll, subs/hero sandwiches, and more. The new owners promise to maintain regular hours 7 days a week at 11 AM.
Whether they are able to open October 1st (as the sign now reads) or later, pretty much depends on Sarasota County Government permitting speed. So far, they have repainted the interior and poured a new kitchen floor. In addition to some in store dining, delivery will be available via various delivery apps. A new restaurant coming to replace an upscale Southside Village eatery.

Adeline, the fine-dining restaurant on Hill view Street in Sarasota, FL, will close its doors on October 4th after three years of service. According to a news release, "This strategic move allows partners Eddie and Drew to pursue new culinary projects.
This transition is a testament to the partners' shared vision for the future. Operating a destination restaurant in a seasonal location presented unique challenges, and the decision to close Adeline opens up new opportunities for both partners."
Eddie Zaki tells us that he and his partners from 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen & Cocktails will open a brand-new restaurant and speakeasy in the same location.
According to the release, "Drew will continue his passion for crafting refined, well-sourced dishes by staying in Sarasota to lead a high-end culinary project."
"We are incredibly grateful for the support we've received from our guests over the past three years," said Eddie and Drew. "Adeline was a labor of love, and we are proud of everything we accomplished. We're excited for what's next and hope our guests will join us on our new journeys."
Fans of Adeline are invited to visit for a final memorable meal before the restaurant closes on October 4th.
The new restaurant will be called "Mimi " According to Eddie, it will serve an American menu and looks to become a go-to neighborhood dining spot offering an American menu and cocktails in the speakeasy lounge. It's expected to take several weeks for the renovations. Stay tuned for an announcement of the opening.

A new restaurant taking over a recently closed Gulf Gate spot.

According to a sign permit application with Sarasota County, "Brooklyn Blues" will be opening on Gulf Gate Drive.. No official word yet on what type of restaurant it will be, however rumors in the neighborhood say it will be Italian, which would go along with the name.

As you may recall, Thailand Restaurant closed at the end of February. The building was purchased by local restaurateur Michael Evanoff of Evie's who offered it for lease.

An upscale Irish pub coming to Lakewood Ranch.

Delany’s Public House will be taking over the former McGrath's Kitchen & Cocktails on Lakewood Main Street. A spokesperson described it as an upscale eclectic Irish tavern with a chef driven menu. Classic plates, but elevated. The planned restaurant comes from the team behind Allswell in nearby Waterside Place and is named for one of the partners, Tory Delany. The spokesperson tells us, "There will also be a traditional, old-school provisions store in the restaurant, a nod to the rural country pubs of old Ireland."
It will also feature, "a hand crafted cocktail program, seasonal brews and a full wine list." Plans call for gutting the existing restaurant and it will feature a new stage for live entertainment.
This will be the fifth restaurant for the Allswell partners, who also operate New York City restaurants The Malt House and Amity Hall. They expect Delany’s Public House to open in early 2026,

A new ice cream, coffee and creperie coming to The Meadows.

Crepetopia has announced plans to open in the north Sarasota, FL community at the end of this month. Crepetopia is billed as an ice cream, coffee shop and creperie offering desserts in the condo community split by Honore Avenue near University Town Center.
Included in the photos they have posted of hand-dipped ice cream, drizzled crepes, and milkshakes are also pictures of croissant stuffed with ice cream, drizzled waffles, iced coffee, and more.

Hours will be Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–9:00 PM and Saturday–Sunday 10:00 AM–10:00 PM.
They have announced an August 30 opening.
