We've launched our 2020 Sunset Photo Contest and we'll showcase 6 winning photos in both of our local fall editions. Photos can be taken anytime between January 1 and September 1, 2020. That means you could already have a winning image on your phone or the phone of a loved one. Photo editing is permitted. Photo can be sunset alone or with people, pets, boats, birds, or other things in the foreground or background. Please send a single photo entry as a jpg file to [email protected] before September 2. Please join us in congratulating Mike Levine with Home Instead Senior Care of Venice for receiving our Venice Lifetime Achievement Award. Mike's ongoing support of many local nonprofits including The Salvation Army has had a significant impact on the welfare of seniors in our region. His annual Be a Santa to a Senior Program helps more than 850 area seniors. Mike continually honors local caregivers who are the foundation of all home care businesses. Congratulations to Mike, his wife of 39 years Lisa, their four children, and two grandchildren. Thank you for helping us spread the word about Mike's well-deserved award.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Barbara Gaunt-Jaehne for receiving our inaugural Venice Lifetime Achievement Award. Photo shows Barbara with her granddaughter Genevieve. Barbara has helped thousands of patients dealing with hearing loss and balance issues since 1976. She owns Medical Gardens Hearing Center with offices on Venice Island and on Dearborn Street in Englewood. She’s also worked with five Florida Governors to advocate laws and rules that protect consumers. Congratulations Barbara and thank you for your dedication in helping so many patients for more than 40 years.

I'm honored to announce that Lee A. Perron is receiving our inaugural Sarasota County Spirit Award. Lee manages the Venice Farmers Market (Saturday), Braves Farmers Market in West Villages / North Port (Wednesday) and the Englewood Farmers Market (Thursday). Lee's dedication in managing each market with his team supports our local economy while providing fresh locally-sourced produce to locals and visitors. We'll be announcing two more awards next week. Our fall edition in print and on our website features a beautiful photo of a seashell in water by Marie Laforge. She owns Mango Bistro in Englewood. Marie prints select photos on high gloss aluminum, which is weatherproof, waterproof and scratch-resistant. Have a great week and enjoy the beauty in life everywhere you go.
