Food for the soul. South End Children’s Café serves it daily to children to impact food security. Tracie Killar and her husband, Bob, started this giving place in 2015 when they saw the need in their Albany community. Since then, they have offered healthy dinners in a community setting for children and their families. In March 2020, they reached a milestone of serving 50,000 meals to children who attend their program, their family members, and their volunteers and guests.

“My father brought me over to buy a used washer and dryer. When I first met John, he was walking around his kitchen with a 25-foot phone cord. I asked him, ‘How do you do all this?’ He hired me to answer the phone and take messages! Later, in 2020, after working together, we got married. There have been struggles, but we have gotten through them. Due to zoning laws, we were forced to leave his house, so we moved into his father’s old space. We built the business from sales of $2 million in his basement to what it is now.”
