The Saratoga Springs Police Department is proud to invite the community to a special event on Friday, June 27 at 1:00 p.m. at High Rock Park to officially introduce the newest member of the Mounted Unit—“Sly,” a rescue horse with an inspiring story.
In February, Sly captured the hearts of many after being dramatically rescued from a frozen pond in Saratoga Springs. Since that day, he has been in training with his owner, Allison Ernst, who has generously partnered with the department to prepare Sly for a new role in public service.
Thanks to her dedication and community spirit, Sly will now serve alongside the very officers who helped save his life—all at no cost to the department. Sly’s addition will enhance the department’s ability to engage with the public during community events and bolster patrol coverage during the city’s busy summer season.
The Saratoga Springs Police Department extends sincere thanks to Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga, Inc. for their invaluable support and use of their facility in caring for our Mounted Unit horses. We are also grateful to Impressions of Saratoga for their continued fundraising efforts through the sale of Mounted Unit apparel at their Broadway location. The growth and success of our Mounted Unit would not be possible without the generosity and support of community partners like Allison Ernst, Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga, and Impressions of Saratoga. Their commitment ensures the ongoing care, training, and outfitting of our equine officers.
Please join us in welcoming Sly to the team and celebrating the community collaboration that made it possible.
