Nowadays, when winter gives way and spring temperatures start to climb, Amy Notsch focuses on a new kind of care, one very different from her years spent as an obstetric nurse. From its small-town roots, Amy’s Holistic Flower Farm, established in 2024, has blossomed in just a short couple of years.

“I really believe I was led here … that is why I am doing this,” Notsch said. “I don’t really know what more is in my wheelhouse, but we’ll find out.”

In celebration of June Dairy Month and Kandiyohi County Dairy Days, KWLM Radio is sponsoring a day at the Jans family farm, CoJo Dairy, on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The family is ready to show their nearly 70-year-old farm to visitors, including those for whom this will be a new perspective.

“Usually, when the Willmar kids come out, I ask them how many are from a farm,” said Greg Jans, one of the owners of CoJo Dairy. “There are a few, and then (I ask) how many are from a dairy farm; if there’s one out of all the kids who’s from a dairy farm, that’s pretty unusual. I would say 80% have never been on a dairy farm.”

Cedar fencing and summer perennials line the aisle, massive oaks and weeping willows stand nearby the ceremony space. Limbs sway in the breeze coming off the lake. The natural landscape, accompanied by the chorus of songbirds, is a fraction of the idyllic beauty on display at Rendezvous Farm near Farwell, which is owned and operated by Deanna Alvord and her husband, Charles.

What started as a quiet idea to build a beautiful wedding venue has become a repeat choice among central Minnesota’s engaged couples for its rural charm.

Over 150 years of farm and family history is planted in the soil near New Munich where Phil Poepping is the fourth generation to raise dairy animals at his family farm.

Phil and his wife, Bonnie, raise steers and farm the same land that was settled by Phil’s ancestors 150 years ago. The couple milked 50 cows until 2021, when the herd was sold.

The current Poepping farm site was purchased in 1876 by Phil’s great-grandfather, Herman, who passed it on to his son, Gerhard, who passed it on to his son, Melvin. Phil and Bonnie took over the farm in 1988.
