The sight of two teams squaring off on the baseball field is a common sight during the summer season.

However, what took place July 12 at the Sauk Centre Civic Arena fields in Sauk Centre was an event exclusive to the Sauk Centre Youth Baseball Association, one that encapsulates the full scope of Sauk Centre’s summer baseball program: the 100-Inning Game.

Featuring 15 teams, this year’s 100-Inning Game ran from 9 a.m. into the evening, giving area youngsters a chance to play America’s pastime in a memorable environment.

When Paul and Shawn Hintzen hosted family for the Fourth of July, the gathering meant more than a holiday. Their daughter, Laura, was finally home after 47 days spent in the hospital recovering from brain swelling, broken ribs and a shattered leg.

Laura, 32, had been hospitalized after being struck by a car while walking in Richfield May 17. She was out with her boyfriend, Thom Besl, while celebrating his birthday that evening.

Making it back by the Fourth of July made the holiday even more meaningful.
