On 11/24/2025 at approximately 05:10 AM the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office received a report of a burglary in progress located at the Rothsay Powerhouse in the city of Rothsay. Members of the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office and the Wilkin County Sheriff's Office responded and were unable to locate the suspects. At this time the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office is requesting assistance identifying persons and a vehicle of interest in the incident. The vehicle in question is identified as an early 2000's Chevy Suburban or GMC Yukon, possibly tan in color with aftermarket rims and blue headlights. Please see the attached photograph. Anyone with information regarding this incident please contact the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office at 218-998-8555.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Otter Tail County Sheriffs Office.

The driver who died after crashing while fleeing police in St. Cloud earlier this week has been identified as Mohamud Mahamad Yusuf, 41. He was driving with a canceled license.
Numerous prior convictions for driving without a license.

This year’s WinterWalk boasts at least eight musical performances across multiple venues, offering everything from holiday jazz to a ca****la choral works.

β€’ Obbink Distilling – Leslie Vincent, a Minneapolis-based jazz singer (4-6 p.m.) and Tony-Ray Thompson, blending traditional Southern rock with classic country (6–9 p.m.)
β€’ Jupiter Moon Ice Cream – Aksel Krafnick, acoustic guitarist and singer (5–8 p.m.)
β€’ Bad Habit Brewing Co. – Groovy Shoes, a lively guitar-and-sax duo (6–9 p.m.)
β€’ Church of Saint Joseph – Heritage Hall – Local Harp Ensemble performing at 5:30 p.m. (and again at 7 p.m. at Whitby Gallery at Art & Heritage Place, Saint Benedict’s Monastery)

β€’ At 7 p.m. on the Church of Saint Joseph Lawn, the community comes together for a countdown and the lighting of the town Christmas treeβ€”a beloved WinterWalk tradition. Carolers from Saint John’s Preparatory School under the direction of Jeff Engholm will lead the crowd in singing β€œO Christmas Tree.”
β€’ Two childhood friends who now lead their own businesses – Joyce Brenny of Brenny Transportation and Michelle Carlson of Wildwood Ranch – have partnered together on this year’s Christmas tree – a 30-foot white spruce.
β€’ The tree, carefully selected by Michelle’s son, Ben Carlson, will be transported by Joyce’s trucking company to St. Joseph where it will be displayed near the Church of Saint Joseph.

Situational Awareness**

Around 8am, emergency crews responded to a fire at the compost site located at the Big Lake Public Works facility (198th Ave). The Big Lake Fire Department is currently working on containing/extinguishing the fire with the assistance of neighboring fire departments. The fire is contained to the compost pile and has not damaged any structures. We insist that residents not respond to the site during this time while fire crews work on combating the fire. We will post updates as they are available.
