We had fruitful discussions with those who attended and signed up to serve on various committees to volunteer on the Mayor's Office of Special Events and the Service Committee. Attendees recommended consolidating some of the committees, and many signed on to lead those committees. Many thanks to those who weathered the brief torrential rain to provide insights.

It is NOT TOO late to toss in your name to pledge support to our Village residents.

It is always wonderful to receive positive remarks about our employees. Thanks Mr. Maras for taking time to share the meritorious deeds of staff member, Sean, we appreciate you.

"From Ted Maras

Sean at public works is awesome. We need more people like him working for Sauk Village. I foolishly forgot about my appointment and he bent over backwards to accommodate me and make it work out. Please let Marva and who ever should know how great he is. And coming from a guy like me who doesn’t compliment easily."

The Mayor received a call yesterday from another Mayor to report how wonderful, polite, professional and resourceful some of our officers were this past week. The officers responded to a stolen vehicle report from Chicago. The vehicle's location device pinged to a Sauk Village site. Our officers met the owners at the location and assisted with getting the car operational so that it could be taken to get service as it was damaged by the offender(s). It is very encouraging to receive calls acknowledging our staff. We applaud those officers for providing quality service to the public. Thank You!

We Must Be in the Moment

Sometimes we must take a moment from our governmental roles and be there for those who need us. Lately, many of our youth have taken solace in sitting out back of the Municipal Center where staff usually enter. They feel most welcomed. During this heat, they know we will provide them a chilled bottle of water, if we have lunch or snacks, we share them. When some need corrections, we lovely, yet sternly provide it. They love it!

Today, however, was most emotional. Two young guys, both students of Bloom Trail appeared, one was so discombobulated and out of sorts, I had to go out to check on him. The other was quite the champion and quite astute. After providing water, fruit and pastries, the first recovered. The young man and his friend disclosed that they were both once wards of the state. One is reconnected with his birth parents and is enjoying life and is quite eloquent. He loves dogs and stated that he works at the Vet Clinic in the Village.

The other young man, was adopted, and considers himself homeless, yet frequently find friends like the one previously mentioned, to secretly provide him cover at night. 😢😢😢

I am so thankful to Trustee Diane Sapp for her involvement, as she provided realistic options and convinced the estranged fifteen-year old guy to go home to his adopted parents to seek reconciliation. After tears, rejuvenation, a feeling of hopefuness, and hugs, many hugs, our young men left us with smiles that replaced the weariness shown at our initial encounter.
