Six days after the shooting, no one is in custody.

πŸ“ Rodriguez, 50, was driving her silver SUV south in the 4500 block of South Wood Street in Back of the Yards at about 12:17 a.m. Friday when someone opened fire. She was struck multiple times and crashed into a parked vehicle. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her official title was Police Communications Operator with the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications. She handled incoming 911 police calls. She had been there ten years.

πŸ—£οΈ Alderman Ray Lopez, who represents the 15th Ward where the shooting happened, said a group of armed men surrounded her car before opening fire, and that investigators believe more than one person was involved.

Chicago police have not publicly confirmed that account, and no motive has been officially released. Area One detectives continue to investigate.

Paul Rutherford, executive director of Cook County Crime Stoppers, called it an especially tragic and disturbing homicide involving a woman who dedicated herself to serving the people of Chicago as an emergency communications dispatcher.

In May 2025, six Tennessee law enforcement agencies had signed a 287(g) agreement with ICE.

By November it was 48. By January, 56.

As of today, the majority of Tennessee sheriff's offices β€” plus municipal police departments, state troopers, prison guards and a set of East Tennessee constable districts β€” operate under some form of the program.

That is not organic growth. Tennessee passed a law requiring POST-certified sheriffs to enter 287(g) agreements or risk losing state funding.

State Rep. Johnny Garrett, who sponsored it, put it plainly: get on board or you're going to lose your funding. He says the goal is stronger cooperation between local and federal law enforcement on public safety.

πŸ”Ž The part almost nobody understands: there are three kinds of these agreements, and they are not the same thing.

Jail Enforcement Model β€” officers screen people already booked into a local jail on criminal charges for immigration violations. Enforcement happens behind the walls.

Warrant Service Officer Model β€” the lightest version. Local officers serve ICE administrative warrants on people already in custody.

Task Force Model β€” the most resource-intensive. Under it, local law enforcement act as immigration officers during routine police duties or on an ICE-led task force.

That third one is the significant shift, and Tennessee's largest county just made it.

Knox County Sheriff's Office signed a Task Force Model agreement on Friday, September 11. KCSO had been in the program since 2017 β€” but under the Jail Enforcement Model, which applied only to people already arrested.

Under the new agreement, qualified deputies carry immigration authority on ordinary patrol.

ICE is building a National Coordination Center in Nashville.

A federal Request for Information released September 1 shows ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations seeking contractors capable of performing roughly 1,000 compliance assessments per year of 287(g) agencies nationwide β€” conducted at ICE headquarters in Washington and at the new Nashville facility.

ICE says the center will give 287(g) partners real-time operational support, case guidance and direct access to agency resources.

So Tennessee is not just an early adopter. It's becoming the place where the entire national program gets coordinated and audited.

Nationally, ICE has now signed 2,485 memorandums of agreement across 39 states and two territories, backed by roughly $14 billion in federal incentives.

⚠️ Where the disagreement is.

Supporters describe 287(g) as a force multiplier β€” Greene County Sheriff Wesley Holt, who signed one of the state's earliest agreements, said he did it because there is a right way and a wrong way to enter the country, and that illegal entry is a slap in the face to people who went through naturalization properly.

Critics call the agreements an extension of enforcement tactics used in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Memphis, and argue they invite racial profiling.

Both positions are in the public record. We're reporting what's been signed, not what to think about it.

Thirty-two Tennessee counties are still not participating, including Davidson County, home to Nashville. The sheriff's office there says the law as written does not apply to its position, because the Davidson County Sheriff does not handle law enforcement duties and is not POST certified.

This weekend a sheriff's office in Wisconsin announced that a retired K9 had died.

Last October, after the charges were filed, he posted a signature bond and returned to school on an ankle monitor.

More than a dozen parents kept their children home.

One parent, Christine, told FOX6 at the time that the student was walking through the school with them, wearing the ankle monitor, around technology, roaming like it was a normal day β€” and that she felt the system had failed the students.

Another parent, Matt Allan of Burlington, said it was not something you could take lightly.

Defense experts told FOX6 that he was innocent until proven guilty at that stage, and that releasing a defendant back to school under conditions is standard court procedure.

His mother told investigators he suffers from mental health problems.

That was the argument in October. Friday, the case ended in a conviction and a prison sentence.

And here is the part that matters even if your state is not listed: the recalled lettuce was distributed to 31 states. Illnesses are still being added as health officials interview more sick people.

Investigators traced it to iceberg lettuce grown in central Mexico and processed by Taylor Farms de Mexico, one of the largest produce suppliers in the country.

Taylor Farms recalled all of it on July 17.

Those best-by dates have passed. FDA says it remains confident all recalled lettuce tied to this outbreak is off the market.

Illness onset dates ran from June 14 through August 15. People are still being identified and added to the count β€” it jumped by more than 500 cases in a single week.

And most people who get this never find out what it was.

FDA staff are now inspecting and testing at the farm alongside Mexican government officials.

Deputies went to an Oklahoma City apartment shortly before noon to serve an eviction order.

Housing Authority staff unlocked the door. It would not open.

Cables had been run to the door. An electric wheelchair was wedged behind it.

That was the first sign something was wrong.

The sheriff's office says the fire traveled roughly 15 feet toward a deputy. He felt the extreme heat. He was not injured.

According to the incident report, the device was made from rows of aerosol cans taped together β€” butane lighter fluid and carburetor cleaner β€” with bare wires attached.

It was assembled out of hardware-store parts.
