Not exactly the full content I’ll be sharing here, but I am also writing again. So here’s my first article in awhile.
Remembering Hulk Hogan
The world lost a global icon on July 24, 2025. On that day, it seemed like we all lost a "brother." The Immortal Hulk Hogan passed away, surrounded by family, in Clearwater, Florida.
In life, Hulk Hogan was a giant. His name became synonymous with professional wrestling, and his life was always in the public eye. While he enjoyed unparalleled success, he also became a polarizing figure later in life—what he often referred to as the lowest point of his journey.
Thousands of tributes have poured in for the man—famous friends, family, wrestling fans, and countless others have shared their thoughts on the Hulkster. As a child of the 1980s, Hulk Hogan was a cornerstone of my childhood, and I’ve longed to add my own tribute to the man when the time felt right.
I never knew Hogan personally, but like every other fan, we all felt as though we did. My one and only time meeting him came on June 24, 2023, at his Hulk Hogan’s Beach Shop in Orlando, Florida. I paid for the chance to attend an autograph signing event because, for most of my life, I’d dreamed of meeting this icon. Finally, the opportunity presented itself.
To say that I was unprepared for what to expect upon arriving is an understatement. It took me just under four hours to drive from my home in Savannah, GA, to his beach shop. I left around 8:00 a.m. and arrived at noon, with the signing set to begin at 2:00 p.m. The line was already long and continued to grow throughout the day.
It wasn’t until I entered the shop that I finally laid eyes on my childhood hero. The atmosphere was electric with excitement, a true melting pot of humanity. Fans shared stories with him—laughter echoed through the shop as he graciously listened, engaged, and made everyone feel seen. It was incredible to witness. Hogan wasn’t rushing anyone. He listened. He connected. And then, it was my turn.
Nervous excitement coursed through me. Over the years, I’d met many celebrities, but this was different. This was Hulk Hogan—an icon who transcended wrestling. I brought a painting I had done of him and asked if he’d sign it. He was genuinely blown away by the artwork. I also brought shirts and hats from the record store I owned at the time—one for him and one for his son, Nick, whom he was often seen with.
That gesture seemed to genuinely surprise him, as he remarked that no one had ever brought gifts for both him and his son. I knew that might have been an overstatement, but it made me feel appreciated in a way I hadn’t expected. There were moments we shared—stories and memories—that I’ll keep between us, but I left that signing feeling like the biggest superstar in the world had seen me… even if only for a brief moment.
THAT was my Hulk Hogan experience. It’s a moment I’ll cherish forever. Sure, the classic matches I watched over the years will always bring back fond memories, but for me, it’s the character of the man—the way he connected with people—that makes him truly immortal.
Rest in peace, Champ. You’ll always be with us.
