17-year-old D’Marcus Riggins, a basketball player at B.B. Comer Memorial High School in Alabama, was fatally shot on Aug. 8 after practice. Police found him and another person wounded; the second victim survived. His mother, Tykeshia Riggins, said she had spoken to him about an hour before the shooting when he called to ask if he could bring a friend home. He was shot while walking to his car after dropping someone off.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help with funeral costs, with his mother describing him as “full of life, dreams, and love.” The school expressed deep sadness, offering students a chance to gather and pray. No arrests have been made, and Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information.
