Lemon Boy tomatoes are finally rolling in. 🍅

One thing that surprises people about this variety is that ripe doesn’t mean red. These stay yellow to orange when they’re ready to pick, and if I wait much longer, they actually start getting too soft.

Most of this basket is Lemon Boy, but I think one tomato may have snuck in from my Mr. Stripey plant. We’ll see if it colors up indoors.

One of my favorite garden combinations: yard-long beans overhead and carnivorous pitcher plants below. 🌱

Tonight’s harvest came with a reminder of why I love growing food, everywhere you look, there’s something happening. Beans dangling from the arch, pitchers catching insects, flowers blooming, and dinner growing right in front of me.

There’s a secret ant moat on this hummingbird feeder. 😉🐦

One of the challenges with hummingbird feeders is keeping ants out of the nectar. This feeder has a built-in ant moat that helps stop them before they ever reach the feeding ports.

The hummingbirds have definitely approved, and it’s been fun watching them stop by throughout the day.

Do you use feeders, flowers, or a combination of both to attract hummingbirds?

Part 3 of today’s harvest: peppers. 🌶️🫑

This basket is mostly pepperoncini and banana peppers at different stages of ripeness. Pepperoncini are usually harvested green, but I let some turn red. The banana peppers range from less ripe to fully ripe, and a few Chocolate Sprinkles tomatoes managed to sneak into the basket. 🍅

Part 1 was yard-long beans. Part 2 was eggplant. The garden is producing!

This tomato showed up in my garden with a tiny mustache. 🍅😆

That little bump is called a proliferation; a small growth that forms when tomato cells keep dividing after the fruit has already developed. The overall shape is called catfacing, another harmless quirk that can happen during development.

Perfect tomatoes are overrated. Would you eat the one with the mustache?

This tomato definitely has a little extra personality. 🍅😂

The odd shape is called catfacing, and those scars on the shoulders are growth cracks. They may look unusual, but they’re harmless and won’t affect the flavor.

One of my favorite things about growing food is seeing all the quirks and imperfections that never make it to the grocery store. Homegrown produce isn’t always picture-perfect, but it’s still delicious.

Almost missed this one hiding in the foliage. 🍆

It’s shaped a little funny, but that’s home gardening for you. Not every vegetable is picture-perfect, but it’s firm, healthy, and headed to the kitchen.
