Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Helene! Helene is headed northwest and is expected to make a slight turn to the north. Rapid intensification is going to occur as it moves over the Gulf of Mexico, strengthening to a Category 3 hurricane. With the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, we did see a slight shift to the west. As the storm moves over land Thursday into Friday, the center of the storm is forecast to be just west of Macon, Georgia.
It is important to keep in mind that over the next several advisories, we may see additional track changes. Focus on our expected impacts – not the exact track of the storm. We are currently expecting approximately 3-4 inches of rain and gusty winds. With this, power outages are possible.
