Maine has made progress in its fight against the opioid epidemic, but the crisis remains a serious concern requiring sustained efforts in prevention, harm reduction, treatment, recovery and education. For the 7th consecutive year, partnered with the state for the Governor's 7th Annual Opioid Summit. The team designed a unique, engaging and dynamic experience ensuring a meaningful day of human connection, both in-person and online. With over 1500 people attending multiple keynote sessions and 24 individual breakouts, it was a powerful day and one we are always grateful to be a part of.

The Roux Institute, part of the Northeastern University system, has created a bold new model for learning, research, and entrepreneurship. Since their inception in 2020, their mission has focused largely on making a positive impact on Maine’s communities and economy, and expanding that impact nationally and globally. Through experiential, hands-on programs in higher education, research, partnership, and entrepreneurship, they're continually asking, “What more can we do?”

The question "What more can we do" resonates deeply with the team and an answer we strive for in everything we do. Being a trusted partner to the Roux Institute has been an amazing journey of learning and pushing boundaries. Their dedication to excellence and drive to elevate human connection through technology has been a home run in our growing relationship. Welcome Finney Irash*tsa to the team. Finney was born in Burundi, East Africa and made his way to America in 2017. Finney first reached out in 2021 looking to join the AV Technik team, but being on the back end of Covid the timing was not right.

He spent the next 4 years immersing himself in as many live event opportunities as possible. In addition, he earned a degree from SMCC in Information Technology, oversaw the IT department at Staples and worked with great organizations, like our friends at Spurwink, supporting their internal networks.

He reached back out late winter of this year and instantly impressed the entire team with the quality of his character and his growth and passion around live events. If you see him on an event, say hi, give him a high five or even a hug. We are excited to have you, Finney.

Providing comprehensive services, in-house, allows the team to create event experiences that are technically thoughtful, integrated and impactful. A recent collaboration with the Portland Symphony Orchestra was truly out of this galaxy. We provided technical oversight and operation of a 24 box VUE Audiotechnik AL8 line array system, AL8SB subwoofers, 56 channels of audio for mic'ing the orchestra through an Allen and Heath Avantis, Novatar 4K processing and 80 500mm x 1000mm Absen 3.9mm LED video tiles creating a massive video structure which we rigged and suspended over the orchestra using Tyler LED Truss and Stagemaker Hoists. The audience was 'wowed' with scenes from Star Wars, The New Hope, as the PSO played the film scores live.

The Star Wars tour team does not often accept LED video walls (they request projection), but based on the specifications of our equipment and expertise of the AVT team during the advance, they went for it. The results: they were blown away by the color, contrast, refresh rate and film quality experience it was able to provide. All 3 screenings were to packed houses with standing ovations. Neil deGrasse Tyson is an accomplished astrophysicist, author, and science communicator. His popularity has grown from his ability to popularize complex scientific concepts, particularly in astrophysics, through his engaging public speaking, television appearances, and popular science books.

When he was last in Maine, 7 years ago, Dr. Tyson and the crew got into a technologically sophisticated laser pointer battle. We did NOT win. It wasn't even close.

Colby College and have been collaborating successfully since 2016. We're excited to extend this partnership to a new department this semester, the Goldfarb Institute for Public Affairs.

The Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs is Colby’s hub for politics, policy, and the press. They bring influential leaders, policymakers, activists, journalists, and innovative thinkers to connect the Colby community to public affairs. Through their integrated approach of dialogue, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration, they empower students to think critically, engage meaningfully, and drive change. The Goldfarb Center is committed to shaping dialogue—not just at Colby, but in the world beyond.

One of the highlights of the semester has been their new signature In the News series. These Wednesday night gatherings have quickly become a cornerstone of campus life, bringing students together over food, friendship, and thoughtful conversations about pressing issues related to politics, policy, and the press. Colby is a place where future leaders are shaped, and the Goldfarb Center and the In The News series are playing a central role in that mission.
