This is what sibilance looks like on a waveform. All the "S," "SH," etc., sounds in a recording give vocals their power and words their clarity. But too much is piercing and distracting.

Out of all the D'esser plugins out there, the only one I've found that sounds the most natural with the least amount of artifacts is...clip gain, volume k**b, fader. Tedious for sure, but when it comes to podcasts or audiobooks (as is this example), far far superior in quality.

So the fader is more powerful than ANY plugin when it comes to mixing with emotions...but when it comes to cleaning up audio, iZotope RX takes the cake. I absolutely love it! Cleaning up mouth clicks, pops, and clothing rustle adds so much more clarity to vocals (regardless if it's a singer, rapper, or film dialogue).

Before boosting the high frequencies and compressing the hell out of them, just take the time to clean them up (without batch processing). You'll thank me later. :)
